When are you supposed to change the auto tranny fluid?

there should be a drain plug on the side or bottom of the transmission and once you drain it all, you have to fill it through the dipstick.

It's supposed to be changed every 60K or 5 years

just draining and refilling isn't a complete flush... the trans flush is done with a machine at the dealer and it pumps out the old with the new.... emptying the pan and refilling leaves about 1/3 of the old stuff in the system...

PLEASE! Don't wait 5yrs or 60 thousand miles. I find that dealer scheduled maintainance are set-ups. They only tell you what they expect to service or replace on your vehicle. This leads to you always running into unexpected cost. (Notice how dealerships service center customer base is primarily women and elderly people?) Stay on top of things, Preventive maintainance. Change every 30k or sooner if you drive high performance. I have an automatic and I use MOBIL 1 ATF. It's great stuff!

do you just change the five quarts every 30K miles or do you drop pan and clean screen?

No, I just drain it. The very 1st time I changed to synthetic. I had the old fluid flushed and the filter cleaned.
