I used the idea i got from BMW e30 drivers. http://www.e30sport.net/redtails.html
I went to my local hobby store, got a spray can of Testors Transparent Candy Apple Red and used it on my tails. It cost only like 3.50 and worked great!. All you need else is 8mm socket, masking tape, rubbing alcohol, and paper towels! It's simple and easy.
After removing your taillights:
Tape off the bottom red portions, reverse area (carefully and completely), and the black outlines. Clean with alcohol, let dry 20 minutes, spray 1 coat lightly, let dry 15, another light coat, repeat about 5 times. It should look deep red, then carefully uncover the bottom half, spray it twice to match the colors exactly.
Let your pieces dry a couple hours or overnight and reinstall.
I think it's a major improvement and worth the $4!!!!!! I wish post my pics as soon as i can get at my friend's digital camera!

I wish you would have posted pictures WITH your thread :). It sounds good and all, but without pictures, how can we really comment on it? :) - sounds like a fun task and came out looking good on those beemers.

(a lil sloppy, but not too shabby for free labor. a good DIY effort.
I tried using black tint before, but it ran because i used too heavy of coats. If i could do it again, i'd use very light coats. But also, black taillights are illegal.....so maybe all-red in better in the end. I like the look as it elimates the yellow portions.

What did you use to spray them with? They look nice. I'd like to do something to mine for a lil added flavor. But not sure if I want to smoke them or make them Red like yours.

Basically go to a hobby shop, ask for Testors model spray paint, buy the Transparent Candy Apple Red.
They also have tint spray, highly recommended - "testors is the best". Both cost about $3-$4.
Your choice on black or red. Red is clean, but looks like it could be stock. Tinted look gangster and stylish, but may be illegal in some areas.
