TexasP11 Jul 08, 03, 10:41 PM Today I recieved a contract for my job in the Air Force. I only had to wait about a week which was very cool. Anyways, my job is going to be Avionics Test Station and Components Apprentice. Basically i'll be working on the radars, gps, flight data recorder, and flight control systems on the F-16, F-117(stealth fighter), B1, and A-10. So im pretty excited about that! I leave for Basic on Sep.23 which is in san Antonio. Anyways, i cant wait! :)

Diamond_G Jul 09, 03, 08:19 AM they are gonna do a phatty background investigation... make sure you have the address of every person that you mention on you sercurity clearance app... (then use the time to talk to your family and friends as you please, thats what i did...)
sounds like a fun job...
littlerudegirl Jul 09, 03, 09:07 AM My ex-husband was an avionics technician in the navy and loved it; in fact he still does it in his civilian job. You'll have a great time in this job field; on top of that there are plenty of jobs in the civilian world for it.
I will warn you though, please do not get discouraged in your first year of the military. It is built on seniority, and seeming how you're a little older than some of the recruits going on in, its gonna be a bit of a battle not wanting to slap the hell out of them or seeing one of them advance a little faster.
When I joined the navy I was 20 yrs old, but then there were some girls in my boot camp company that were between 25-30, and I know that it was killing them!
At any rate, once you’re finished with boot camp, tech school will be great and then when you get to your command it’ll suck for the first year, but then again it may not. Maybe you’ll get to go into your shop right away. Just have a little patience and things can go well. ;)
Congatulations!! Sounds like a lot of fun.

jbloggs_c Jul 09, 03, 10:17 AM The company I work for is designing the new air force interactive electronic technical manual (ietm) system. It should be done in september so you might get to be one of the first people to use it. If it sucks you can bitch at me and i'll tell my boss...
e_fizzy Jul 09, 03, 10:22 AM Congrats on the nice job and good luck. Rudegirl is right about the age thing. I went to basic training with a 2 thirty five year olds. They were prior military who went to desert storm. One of them was my battle buddy. How long is Air Force Basic Training by the way? Oh yeah don't call it boot camp, some people get mad, they say only Marines have bootcamp. Anyways good luck man.

FILL EVERY SPACE!!!! Do not leave anything blank, theyll just keep asking you and asking you. I had to fill out some security clearance paperwork for a company that works on military a/c, and Im pretty thorough (FAA requires 10 yrs backaground), well this job wanted back till I was in elementary school!! I didnt have all that information, I had to call my mom for some info :) But just make sure every line has info on it.
