: Best Mod(s) for $600.00
SR20Lover Mar 22, 02, 03:17 PM Which engine mod do you think is best for $600 or less? Here are the things I am debating: Fidanza flywheel, JWT S3 cams, JWT ECU, NOS, 2 Pulley set. Obviously NOS will add the most, but I want all the time power. I already have a CAI, Bored MAF, CM Stage 3 clutch, Primera header, cat back exhaust, JDM 10:1 motor. Thanks for any help.
Dshaft96 Mar 22, 02, 03:51 PM I'd go for the cams.

I'd second that suggestion on the cams!
frogg Mar 22, 02, 08:12 PM cams
NismoPC Mar 22, 02, 08:22 PM I didn't know if anyone had mentioned this to you earlier, but I would go with the cams.
G-Forces Mar 22, 02, 08:48 PM I'll have to recommend something different.....ahh, hell, get the damn cams already. ;)
BTW did what do you mean you bored out the MAF. Why exactly did you do that?
SR20Lover Mar 22, 02, 10:15 PM When you bore out the MAF your car runs a little leaner because more air is entering the engine, but the sensor doesn't know that so it doesn't compensate for it and the engine in turn runs a little leaner which is a power increase. Not much, but every little bit counts and it isn't dangerous.
2002G20Racer Mar 22, 02, 10:24 PM I guess im gonna say cam's 2...
JustinP10 Mar 22, 02, 10:57 PM One thing with the cams... If you get the s3's you could sell the intake cam out of your motor. Anyone with a 94-96 P10 that cam would make a nice difference. You could resonably get probably $50-100 for it, that'd offset the cost of the cams (or if you got the cams for 550, and got 100 for the intake cam, you'd have 150 of your $600 budget left for a UR 2 pulley set- most of the cost of a new set) =)
304border Mar 23, 02, 05:41 AM I will also recommend u go for JWT or JUN 's cam. Cause NOS Is too danger to drive at the street lo....

Yeah I know that I just wanted to make sure you understand what's happening. Have you verified this on a dyno? I'd be interested in seeing the results.
Not that I'd ever do or recommend something like this.

This is an Andreas Miko trick. I wonder if the MAF was purchased or bored out by him?
For those that dont know, Andreas Miko is an SR20 guru down in Florida. He seems to make miracles happen and put down more HP than should be possible. He knows a lot of SR20 tricks and sells a lot of turbo parts, DET's and SR20VE's.

And he's a real cool dude! ; -) I've met him in person, and took a look at the motor(s) supply he's got just laying around.
His claims are pretty impressive.. If you've got the $, he can built it!
For $600 I would replace the Primera manifold with a current HS header and a 2 pulley set.

The weblink above says this:"The Hotshot Nissan Sentra SE-R header has consistently proven on the dyno to deliver 12 horse power to the wheels on stock SE-Rs."
:confused:12 hp AT THE WHEELS?Are they for real?
b-b00gie Mar 23, 02, 11:24 AM I agree with Geo on this one.
The cams will give you some HP, but not as much as if you have a JWT ECU. Getting the HS headers and some pullies will probably give you ~15whp.
You can also sell your Primera header to put money towards your next mod.
Yahnozha Mar 23, 02, 11:33 AM Dont forget, unless you can install the cams your self, add on the cost of labor to get the cams installed. With the header you can do that yourself. On the pullyes...well, I had mine installed, and it didnt cost all that much, but Cam install prices are a bit high in my opinion, so I am getting geared up to do that once I get my valve cover gasket in...
On that MAF, how much was it bored??

Ahh hell yeah! Stupid stealership wanted to charge me 5 hours labour. Any other place I'd trust to do it properly wanted almost as much as I paid for the damn cams. :-\ This is before I grew the balls to do it myself. ;)

Actually, I think the number is higher these days. I'm pretty certain that figure is for a much older generation header.

It wasn't that I didn't have the money, I just didn't like the idea of forking over that much dough to some monkey. :-\
I would have never attempted such a swap without the experience of the SE-R list. ;)

Chris Mar 24, 02, 07:57 AM Someone here mentioned earlier that the stock 94 g20t cam be sold between $50 and $100 to some other 94-96 G20 owner. ...I have a regular G20 P10. Is my cam different than a G20t P10?

No the 't' has nothing to do with the motor at all. It's the specs over the years that changed on the engine only.

Also , it's not the stock 94 intake cam that people are wanting. They are wanting the '91-'93 intake cam. If your car was manufactured after August 1993, then you can swap your intake with the earlier year cam for dyno proven increased performance gains.

Boy howdy!
I started working on my own car in college. It was either that or walk. I started with a $6 K-Mart socket set and a Clymers manual. Then I bought "Auto Repair for Dummies" (that was way before the current "for dummies" books ever existed - about 20 years ago).

hehehe! I used to steal, err! borrow my dad's tools back in high school to work on my 1981 Toyota Corrola SR-5 Sport Coupe Hardtop. Whew! Gotta cath my breath after that one.
Anyhow, around 1988-89, I trashed my rear diff. (Pumpkin) ripping over half of the teeth off the gear and busted the bearing on the drivers side axle. That was a fun ass job. My dad wouldn't even lift a hand to assist me. He thought it was interesting that I thought I could do it myself, so I did! I actually remember it like it was yesterday. And all I had was I beleive a Haynes.
Got a used one from the junkyard, replaced it. And drove around with a rubber hammer. Why? you ask. At the time I didn't know the bearing/axle was busted so I would have to get outta the car every so often and bang the rear axle back into the diff then drive off. Hahahaha!
Finally realized the axle bearing needed replaced and had Napa press it on for me. Installed it and off I went!

I bet you felt on top of the world after that eh? ;) No satisfaction like doing it yourself. That's why when I buy my own house it will have at least a one car garage. :D
