: Street Racing + Police

I'm wondering if any of you guys have a special police force dedicated to eradicate street racing in your "State" / "Province" or Country.

Here in Ontario (Canada) there are two programs, one of which is relatively new.

There's P.A.C.E.R (Police and Community Educating Racers), which basically are officers who help out and educate street racers about their vehicles and laws etc.

Then recently a new program has been implemented, called E.R.A.S.E (Eliminating Racing on All Streets Everywhere).

Basically E.R.A.S.E. are a bunch of bully officers that harrass and ticket essentially every vehicle that is in someway modified, whether they are racers or not. They simply don't give a crap.

What I've noticed lately is when you go to a carshow, it's like these carshows have some type of "deal" with the cops, because it's no surprise that after the carshow, cops are everywhere ticketing modified cars.

I'm sick of being harrassed for having a modified car that people (particularly cops) assume is meant for street racing. It's like, "you have a header and cai, therefore you must be a street racer" and yet you have cars that are coming on to the market that are 200+ hp. Are they street racers? Not to the officers, no they aren't.

So lemme know what kind of programs, if any, are out there.

A local police department in my area has riced out a couple of Civics and Integras to use in stings on street racers...they'll go to a race gathering undercover and then call in backup to bust the lot of them.

Buddy Luke Words of wisdom... if a cop says pop your hood you say no. A regular cop cant pop your hood cause most of cops out there are mentally declined when it come to automech. MTO is the only guys that have the right to pop your hood.

What I fear about your car buddy is that its to low and one day youll run into a ver anal basterd whod want to fuck some one over and hes gonna pick on you and if your tire rubs your car is getting its plates pulled.

One of the guys that hangs out with us TSR's at woody &16th he got $500 worth of tickets one night with a cop looking at his car for 45mins.

If I were to get $500 worth of tickets, I'd sell my car probably. Because if it happens once, it'll happen again and I don't need that kind of trouble. I've been fortunate though... I guess cus I don't go out in the evenings much when the crazy officers are out and about. I've ran redlights infront of cops and have been lucky not to get ticketed :).

in phx, exibition of speed ticket is 8 points on your license, which means you can't drive. i got pulled over twice in 98 when i had my eclipse for drag racing but never ticketed. before the movie F&F, there wasn't that much public concern over it so the cops just let me go. i think that movie fucked up alot of shit, and should never have been made. people are stupid.

I don't see how they can ticket you in Canada for the "Looks" of your car? How can that stand up in court? I don't know how your legal system works, but that's not right... ? That's really weird, is it illegal to modify your car up there Atomic? I don't understand? Do you guys have media you can turn to? This isn't right... I had a cop (in the passenger seat with his partner driving) say "nice car..." to me when we were at a stop light before, so, here, they don't mind it so much I guess... If we were actually racing, then yes, they have a problem, but just cause your car looks fast, they don't write tickets.. otherwise Ferrari owners would be fuct, so would Corvette owners, Porsche owners, etc... hmm.. that's just not right Atomic!

I'm in canada too, it sounds like they're alot more strict there. They are starting to down on street racers and illegal mods that shouldn't be illegal. Things like light brightness and fog lights, mufflers, lowering, window tint, just about anything they can argue could not be safe for other drivers. If you ask me it's a money grab. We have cars coming out by the thousands to a local strip every sunday and guys there are getting pulled over and tickets for nothing, I don't even go anymore cause I'm not a showoff, and just liked getting out to see the new stuff and mods, but theres far too many negatives there now so I just avoid that crap.

How is lowering not safe? How is a muffler not safe? How are fog lights not safe? Geez, I'd love to hear their explanations.... I mean, a muffler's a muffler, a spring is a spring, and a fog light is a fog light... how bizzare.. and I thought you guys had a more LIBERAL stand point up there, apparently not!

Lowering - unsafe cause the car will dive under the other cars bumper and the accident will be worse cause there will not be bumper-bumper contact.

Mufflers - too loud and obnoxious, violate city, county, state sound ordanences

Fog lights - depending on how it is wired, there may be too many lights on a vehicle that are over a certain candlepower. Also they create glare for oncomming cars.

Like Shawny boy said, if you're too low you get a ticket. If your exhaust is loud (obviously differs) you'll get an "improper muffler" ticket. Fabius mentioned the MTO, they will pop your hood and ticket you for a CAI and Header, because they consider it "ready for street racing" or some bullshit.

I don't mind them cracking down on street racers, but for them to crack down on car enthusiasts who enjoy modifying their rides is wrong. It's obviously all politics + money. The media doesn't help either.

The police here have a chopper that is painted all black and can't even be heard that they use to combat street racers.

I work at MTO and the Gov.on.ca is coming out with legislation the prohibits car modification outright. All cars will need to be returned to stock form. However, I only heard part of the story from my boss...

from what i know that bill was thrown out twice now... its just impossible to do that there will be so many shops going out of business... Toronto as it stands now it need all the business it could get if that bill passes what are store owners gonna do and what are all the people that have modded their cars gonna do?

BTW....
-air cone filter $190 ticket reason: it changes the emissions of the car :paranoid:
-exhaust $190 ticket reason: it could be loud but if the officer doesnt have a decibal reader he cant tell if the muffler is loud by canadian standards it has to be 90decibal or higher to be considerd loud.
:surprised there are so many other things i keep hearing about and how people get ticked it over and over. I just for get about them.
-lowering could ticket you or pull your plates, reason: If the car is lowerd its unsafe in a turn where the tire rubs agains the fender which could cause unsafe wear to the side wall of the tire. Also as mentiond... the body kit reason.

I have been ticketed for non working head light $190, and illigal muffler $190. I fought bouth and won... I went to the nissan dealer ship and bought a light bulb took it to the T/A and the light bulb ticket was thrown out. The muffler ticket was reduced to $30 which i really didnt care for since i bought the car with the muffler (the ticket was issued to me because i dont have baffels in the muffler ):p

We will see what happens, but i dont think that bill will come around again for another 2 years.

Around here in CT, there are two BIG hangouts. The one I don't go to is up in Hartford, where it is al illegal street racing. I avoid this hangout, so I do not know about the police situation.

However, the one I go to is on the Berlin Turnpike, or "the pike". Here the road consists of a long stretch of strait raod, about ten-20 miles worth, and all along the side is businesses in large lots. Some of these being, Circuit City, Best Buy, Huge stripmalls, etc. The hangouts are in the lots usually of open restaurants, Wendy's, McD's, Dunkin Donuts, Friendly's (and using the attached lot if Circuit City) These hangouts are where you can go and park the car, check out all the other's etc. The only problem we have is when the cops come by, they kick out all non-cuctomers. So we pull into a lot, decide we want to stay, go buy a soda, and stay for a while. The cops are cool up there, no B.S. Tickets for mufflers (EVERYONE has one, can't ticket us all), lights, etc. They have constant speed traps about every 1/2 mile though, but the can be expected. Other than that, real cool place to hang, and I'm one of the very very very few G's up there, so I get lots of recognition. Such a great time.

P.S. The atmosphere is fantastic, guaranteed to hear a bov about every minute.

The mentality of some of the cops must be guilty till proven innocent.
I remember sometime last year in Houston some cops organized a *sting* to break up an alleged street racing ring....the sting backfired pretty bad and blew up in the cops face causing a big City Hall mess. I don't have all the details on it but I'll see if I still find the link to it.
It's sad that cops have to bust a group of young car enthusiats that are just hanging around showcasing their cars *AND NOT STREET RACING* where as if they just browse the street/illegal racer forums on the web they could easily catch the real street racers in the act.:-\

In my town, the cops tend to look at the neons, brettas, hondas, and integras then G20s. So far I have seen mostly these cars being pulled over and they are the ones that do ruin it for others. And the only reason they are being pulled over is because they drive like idiots and cause problems.

Its like since Fast and Furious came out they think those with modified cars are going to do the same things, not all of us are street racers we just want our cars to look good!

Dudes, I got the worse sentence in the history of Street Racing, or hang out or whatnot. In May, I went to the "track." No one there. My cousin lines up with me and tells me that we should just go home. He burns out and leaves. I follow. We get raided, cars got impounded, and booked in county jail for 1 night.

Last week. Went to court. Got sentenced. The worse mutha-phucken judge in the god-damn dick sucking court system, I swear. Sentenced us (Me- driver cousin-driver and both our little brothers) to 3 nights in jail, $500 fine, 50 hours community service, 1 month suspended license, and 3 years. . . . 3 fucken years of Probation. This being our FIRST offense ever in our lives. Never even got a speeding or a no signal ticket.

Next question:How fast did they say you were going over the speed limit?
If they can't prove or show beyond a reasonable doubt that you were doing excessive speeds or driving recklessly then HTF are they going to charge you with *Illegal Street Competition*?
Maybe it's just me, but I really see something bogus and messed up about that law.:bandit:

I may be wrong here, but any contest of speed can be any act of competition, right? Doesn't matter if you're going 5mph or 105, you were still "competing" in some sort of racing or whatnot.

There's also "exhibition of speed" you could chirp your tires and get this ticket. Since that means loss of traction i think they can get you for wreckless driving, etc...

It really sucks how bad they're cracking down....

specially since a 45 year old in a nice M5 wouldn't get any "exhibition of speed" tickets, wheels chirpin or not.. it's an age thing all day long...

Hmmm...I still think that there should be some further clarification of that law. To me, that means anyone that gives their car a little too much gas, a potential car buyer taking a test drive or someone trying to merge on the highway could be in violation of said law.... :paranoid:

That's how I feel too. There are cars out there like the Viper, Vette and (your favorite high-performance exotic here) that have gobs of torque and hp at low rpms and can chirp tires in second and third gear. Now if I can get a ticket in my G20 for *peeling off* and *chirping my tires* then the owners in those exotics should be doing jail time......regardless of their age.

I'm not pissing in the wind....I just feel that the law in question has some degree of bias in it.....

God bless Colorado... they don't care what your car looks like, only how you behave on the road, and even then, I've seen BS moves by people in front of cops, and they still don't get pulled over... it's almost like we live in a Motorist Anarchy here... ha ha! The highway is definitely use at your own risk! no lifeguards on duty! :D
