Whats a good toolkit set to buy? Somone told me a husky set, or a crafstaman set from sears because they replace anything you break for free. I need A whole 80 - 120 piece set. Any ideas?

I got craftsman everything. Get some sockets, screwdrivers, a floor jack and stands, and a torque wrench; you can do pretty much anything with those.

I second that. Gotta love the lifetime warrantee also, because you don't even need a receipt or have an excuse when you return it. Me and my uncle break our tools all the time, and we're glad that craftsman offers warrantee. Don't get me wrong, craftsman tools are very strong, we just untorque unbelievable bolts with a help of a extended breaker bar added on the handle for more leverage  I do agree with AMDGOD though, snap on tools are nice.

That's it, I'm putting someting in my SIG, it will do something like 'Call me Garrett not AMDGOD or may your 20 be keyed' lol

;) :woohoo:

Snapon are Great. I was working in the a junkyard, and just trying to be my little destructive self. :flame: Anyhow, I was trying to get a rim off of a car (the rim was destroyed allready) and I had the wrench on the lug, and I was jumping on top of it, instead of the wrench breaking, the lug broke, half stuck in, half on the ground. Once I saw that I knew I was Snap-On for life.

snap on's are great. but come on they are so pricey that if u have a chance to get them at a great price go for it but for most people stick with craftsman. craftsman tools are good, but nothing feels like snap on stuff, just too damn expensive.

as for dremel u can get the dremel brand or u can get the craftsman one (which is made by dremel iirc). u get a better set for the craftsman one for the same price.

Hehe thatd be a great sales pitch for the Snap-on tool salesman. Except that I can break a lug bolt with the stock lug wrench no problem.

Snap-on makes awesome stuff but it's just plain ridiculously expensive. Craftsman is great too, but they screw you if you want to buy piecemeal. The only way to get a great deal is to buy a set, and Craftsman sells a lot of different sets. You could also get on Costco.com and order some Facom sets. Those are sweet tools too (also $$$).

I went to buy some flare nut wrenches a few weeks ago, and bought one 13/14 mm one at Sears for $13.99 (ouch!). The set of 4 was $24.99. Let's just say I returned it after I found a no-name 3 pack set (w/ lifetime warranty) at Autozone for $8.99. I mean honestly, how often do you really use a flare nut wrench?

Sears does have great sales on tools from time to time. When I bought the flare nut wrench I picked up a set of 8 reversible ratcheting wrenches for $50. Regular price was $100.

It's all about cost/benefit ratio!

Looking to buy a craftsman set in the next few weeks, I'm on the sears mailing list, find the set you want and wait a few weeks for it to go on sale, if you wait a few weeks, they'll drop the price of the set by 30-50 dollars depending on the set you want. Then go buy it. Plus they have the great life time warranty

Just a quick note... I LOVE my Snap-On tools... but their breaker bars aren't as beefy as the Craftsman ones. I've broken a lot of them... even my 24" one. I've broken a few less Craftsman ones... :monkey:

Also, don't forget about SK, they make some awesome tools. A lot of guys swear by their ratchets. Finding a dealer to return them to is a bitch...

For the average home mechanic, I'd go with Craftsman and Husky. If you're willing to toss more money into it, Snap-On and SK.

Everytime I swap a power steering pump, remove a transmission line, fuel filters, residential and comercial HVAC stuff... want me to continue? :lick: :monkey:

You wouldn't like the price tag on my Snap-On set... but I love it. Snap-On makes THE BEST wrenches.

I am currently using a set of Powerbuilt 70+ piece set, got those from Kragen. I have no complaints toward them. Pretty decent tool.

I still like Craftsman the most.

I bought a 248piece Mechanics tool set. Craftsman.

Me and cliffgump used that to put my motor back in, and bolt everything back on. Had everything I needed except like the Axel socket which is huge! that i needed.

An I got it on sale for like $159 or so. Good deal.

Some things you really might want. Are a magnetic tip philips screw driver. I've had that before my tool set and it comes in handle. It 'holds' the screws if you are taken them off or out of something out of weird angles.

Get metric. You won't need hardly any normal stuff. Metric sockets, wrenches.. almost all and every single thing on your car. Will be metric.

Awesome stuff. Stupid expensive.

IMO Snap-on is overkill for a shadetree mechanic. I'd agree with everyone else go with the Craftsman stuff. Decent quality at a decent price.

My stuff is Canadian brand Mastercraft tools from Canadian Tire. Lifetime warrenty also...just take the broken tool in and get a replacement no questions. Pretty sweet.
