Hey guys,

I am new to this forum and just picked up a '93.5 G20 from a relative. I need to get a lot of work done to it. According to the Infiniti dealership, I need
- New motor mount
- New EGR valve
- New Oil return unit (whatever that is)
- Head gasket
- Upper link arm
- CV boot.

The estimate came out way high so I am planning on doing some of it and let a mechanics doing the rest. Plus I am thinking about couple of mod, like CAI, OBX header, and may be a new cam. I don't want to spend a lot of money on this, just want to make it a little faster. Anybody here from Houston can recommend a good mechanics that's willing to put in performance parts. Thanks and looking forward to contributing to this forum

Congrats on your purchase. You could try taking it to your local nissan dealership since they usually charge much less than the Infiniti dealer. The mods so like a good start, if you havent done so already, check the FAQs on the homepage. Welcome and stick around. =)

That's just a common misconception on parts. If the part crosses between Nissan and Infiniti it'll have the exact same cost and list price. Now for labor rates, that's up to the specific dealer (and most likely their service manager/director.

Im talking labor. My local Nissan charges much less than the Infiniti dealership. Same thing when I had my Lex, I took it to the Toyota dealer to get cheaper rates. Not a misconception, but it does differ from area to area.

Yeah, but everyone seems to think parts are cheaper through Nissan....
Labor, like I said, is determined by the Service manager/director. There's some control by Nissan/Infiniti, but it's not much. I think our dealership charges almost $100 an hour! :-\

Man, you guys are really lucky. If I was to bring my G to one of the four Nissan stealerships, they would tell me that they don't service Infinity's(yes, some of the Nissan places actually spell it like that)..... :tired:
