View Full Version : Windows Come Up Slow....

I'm just guessing it's cuz the motors are old (1992 G20), but it's really bad on the passenger's side. The window doesn't even come up if the glass is wet, and it has to be pulled up while I'm holding the switch. Is there anything that can be done to the motors, or is it just something I'll have to live with?

You can probably get a replacement motor. I guess they wear out over time. Should be an easy replacement.

How much should such a motor cost? I know my local dealer kinda rips people off....the cost of good service I guess.

I just replaced my driver's door window motor. Very easy fix, took me 24 minutes exactly. I got mine from mossy nissan in oceanside, california for $176 after tax and shipping and serca discount. If you aren't a serca member I suggest you join. It'll cost you about $240 otherwise. I can give step by step instructions if you need it.

i've read that an altima motor works for the driver's side door. it would save you about $100. :D

I installed an altima motor and they cost about $245 after sales tax and a local shipping cost. The infinity motor will cost $260 for just the motor before tax. So definitely get the altima motor and be sure to become a serca member so you can get a nice discount on parts if you aren't already.

Mine had the same problem when i got it. I replaced the motor. It would've cost about $240, but the dealer gave me a 10% discount so it ended up being $177. I asked how much it would cost to have them install it and he said labor was $80 an hour!! The hardest part of installing the new motor was getting the old one out of the door. That was before Christmas, and just the other day my window wouldn't go down. An hour later i tried again and it worked fine, now it's stuck up again so i guess it's just the switch.

I guess it wouldn't hurt to check. Time to pull out the voltmeter.

Awright, thanks everyone. I'm off to the junkyard to find a usable altima motor. I'd get a new one...but I need to save money to fix a nasty impact above my right rear.... -_-

.....if this would work.

I did some research on this before and I read that you could keep you existing motor. All you needed to do was remove the carbon build up from the motor. I have no idea how you would gp abou tdoing this but if it works it would be even alot cheaper than buying a used $70 motor

and thats the eskimo's $0.02

where abouts in the motor? The part with the coiled wire or were all the gears are to make the window move.

Ya I don't even know how to take out the motor, I've taken the door apart before but I could figure out how to take the motor out. It just hung there attached to some cable and I didn't what to do to get it out.

where the motor is. All I know is that carbon supposidely builds up inside of this motor and u can clean it out somehow dont ask me but it supposidely works alot better after its cleaned out

To replace the motor you'll have to take out the regulator (the thing that attaches to the motor and has the cable on it that moves the window up and down) and the metal regulator guide rail in the center of the door.

First unscrew the the 10mm bolts that keep the window attached to the regulator rail window perch (make sure the window is lowered or this is gonna be a big PIA). Then remove the two 10mm bolts at the top and two at the bottom of the rail. Keep the bolt on the top that's closer to the front of the car attached to the rail, just loosen it a bit so it will slide through the hole. Do the same with the top front bolt on the regulator.

After the bolts are out, push the window all the way up so it stays in place (use some duct or packing tape to hold if it won't stay). Next tilt the regulator and rail toward the front of the car and slide it out the large hole in the bottom rear of the door. You can now take the motor off the regulator. It is attached with short 10mm bolts (don't get these confused with the ones from the door because they short than the ones for the door). Simply attach the new motor and put the regulator and regulator rail back in and line it up. But make sure the window perch is at the bottom for easy access. Bolt everything back into place, including the window, and you now have a working window.

Do you want the number for the P10 direct replacement, the altima replacement for a P10, or the P11?

Chris

if there are any other motors that would work? Anyone else out there tried something other than the Altima one?

I was just told by a mechanic. "If it ain't broke don't fix it!"

Just his two cents...:bandit:

I was told that the Altima has different windows that are lighter so that Altima motor may work.. but will break sooner because of overload.. your best bet is to stick with a factory one and replace it when it is completely broken....

BTW: There are 2 window motors on Ebay right now from some guy in Atlanta (not me and I know nothing about this person)

...but I keep a constant eye out on ebay for g20 parts and noticed the motors the other day

I don't know how that could be the case since the altima motor his a larger more heavy duty motor than the g20 motor. Seems kinda strange to me that it would break sooner.

maybe someone here on the board can tell us if they did the altima swap and how long it has lasted them? ..that would be a better true result... how it perfomed in real life.. instead of different theories...

I'm starting to get that problem and mine is a 2001. This definatally shouldn't be happening yet. It's not going up really slow, but slow enought that I notice a difference.

If it's happening to your 2001 I think you need to cut down on the trips through the drive-thru, Jim :p

I would think a 2001 is still covered under warranty... hurry in to get it fixed while it is still free!@!!:knockout:

My windows started slowing down early in my 1992 -- especially in winter, and I was really worried about it, so I sprayed both L and R front windows with silicon spray lube -- then I worked over the gaskets some more -- then I cleaned it up and waxed both those windows! This all helped, and I suspect that the motors have lasted tihs long ONLY because I made the load "slippery". I think anything that makes that glass go up and down easier might be good preventive maintenance, with those expensive motors!!!!

that Infiniti had upgraded the front window rubber for easier up/down of the windows? You can check if your's is the upgraded one by seeing it has a greyish/white line on the inside track... many got their's replaced for free under warranty but other'd did not. I think the newer 94's on up already had the more improved version...
