: Rear Sway Bar Trouble!
Cryss Feb 26, 06, 12:41 AM ok so im pretty frustrated right now. just spent all night trying to install my stillen rear sway. as it turns out, it appears that it is about 1/4 of an inch too wide.
what are the odds of that?
does anyone know the correct width so i can see if it is a defenctive part? or maybe my ride is fucked up some how.
thanks in advance for the help.
chris
lol, if you put it up to the stock one and it is too long/short it will tell you all. Your couldnt be that far off...mayb you got one designed for a different vehicle. I just took my sway bar off today to lube it, and have decided sway bars are a pain in the ass to install/take off/jiggle around.

The P11 doesn't have a stock one :eh:
Looking at the body alingment section of the FSM, there are a couple of bolts near the trailing arm pivots that are 1050mm (41 1/4") apart.
whew!! at first I thought this was a problem with the progressive bar everybody just bought.. lol.
you have any pictures of where things aren't lining up?
Cryss Feb 26, 06, 10:23 AM nah i dont have any pics, but when i bolt up one side of the sway bar on the outside of the brackets, the other side is sitting parallel with the trailing arm (not on the inside where it should be) spent hours trying every which way to get it to fit.
what are the odds that the bar is too wide? or is my car messed up?

cool thanks mark im guna try and find that in the fsm right now
Gmac03 Feb 26, 06, 12:01 PM Looking at the trailing arm from the rear, the stillen sway should be behind the trailing arm maybe a half an inch lower than it. It almost sits flush on the rear beam.

tried it with the flush with the rear bear.
it is too wide. with one side bolted up with the stillen brackets, the opposite side sits right under the trailing arm. 1/4 of an inch too wide to fit inside the stillen bracket.
***does anyone know how wide the bar is from end to end???
Send a pic. Maybe something else is wrong. It should be a straight fit. I have one: no problems at all...
Cryss Feb 26, 06, 04:18 PM dont really have a pic. im actually planning on compairing the bar to my friends p11 and see if it might be my car that is the problem.
you dont happen to know the width do you?
Cryss Feb 27, 06, 01:33 PM ok, maybe i didnt state it right. the bar itself may not be too wide. but the pieces at the end (where the holes are, where the brackets connect) are 1/4 of an inch too wide. did anyone have to force the bar into the brackets? bend it a little bit for it to fit??
Cryss Mar 02, 06, 11:01 AM anybody have to force in their stillen rear sway bar??

hey bro..maybe ur putting it in backwards?? LOL i know its dumb but you never know LOL....PM ME

freaktroll Mar 04, 06, 09:53 PM Man, they need better instructions. You are not the first to have problems and it took me awhile to figure it out, but mine fit just fine. Here are some pics that may help you troubleshoot...
Here is a pic of the brackets bolted on just in front of the rear suspension.

Cryss Mar 04, 06, 10:25 PM yup, im pretty sure i had it bolted up just like that (+ 100 different ways)
was it a perfect, slide into position fit, with the bar?
mine seems like be 1/4 of an inch too wide and i think i might be able to force it in to get it to fit.
Cryss Apr 21, 06, 12:12 AM ah hah. it was too wide by an inch. i think its for a sentra or something.
the rear strut bar i bought was also an inch too wide, so in the mail they went.
i just bought a used one off another memeber, fit like a glove.
Ericdd Apr 21, 06, 06:00 AM my rear strut bar ( the last one made) was an inch short. I had the mounting brackets adapted to make it work. it took over a month for me to get the wrong one and they stopped making it so there was no way it wasn't going in.

yeah i picked up the last one of the lasts too. but i just sent it back. i would have to grind the bar for the brackets to fit. too much trouble, thought i would just try and find one used.
90redaccord Apr 21, 06, 11:14 PM were can i find Rear Sway and front can any one let me know thanx
d bomb Aug 02, 06, 10:53 PM i need to move my sway bar towards the back more. i didnt get instructions with mine, but freaktrolls pics helped a lot. i thought it was weird that when i hit a hard bump the brackets would hit the frame.
