Ainsley Hyman, come on down!

SR20DETg20girl's (http://www.g20.net/forum/member.php?u=2452) P10:

http://www.g20.net/gallery/data/3479/A_mar_1.jpg (http://www.g20.net/gallery/data/3479/mar_1.jpg)

G20.net: How, when & why did you first acquire your Infiniti G20?
SR20DETg20girl: I remember the day like it was yesterday… May 22, 2001. We (yes, the car and I) celebrate our anniversary every year ;) I actually bought the car because a friend of mine had a P10 when I was 16 and I had fallen in love with his. I knew absolutely nothing about the car or the SR20, but I just knew there was something about that car that was special, and I had to have one. I didn’t even bother looking at anything else when it was time to buy. I looked at a few Gs and all fell through, but things worked out absolutely story-book perfect with this one.

http://www.g20.net/gallery/data/3479/A_mar_2.jpg (http://www.g20.net/gallery/data/3479/mar_2.jpg)

G20.net: What were your original plans for the car and have they changed since?
SR20DETg20girl: Honestly, I didn’t know too much about cars when I first bought her so I didn’t have any major plans, but that has changed a lot over the last few years (thanks mostly to G20.net and my friends). I originally wanted to keep her relatively stock and just have a fun street car. Intake, header, exhaust, a small stereo, that’s about it. My plans changed about 3 months after I bought her. I found this site, learned about the DET swap, and decided to go for it. A turbo seemed like a lot of fun, and the modding has gotten progressively more intense as the years progressed.

http://www.g20.net/gallery/data/3479/A_mar_3.jpg (http://www.g20.net/gallery/data/3479/mar_3.jpg) - http://www.g20.net/gallery/data/3479/A_mar_4.jpg (http://www.g20.net/gallery/data/3479/mar_4.jpg)

G20.net: What performance modifications have you made to your car ?
SR20DETg20girl: The engine is version 4.1, and it is fully built. It’s a US-Spec SR20DE block that has been overbored 1mm (87mm bore x 86mm stroke, 2045cc) with a milled and acid washed US-Spec highport head. Internals consist of Wiseco 9.0:1 87mm pistons, Wiseco piston rings, Eagle H-beam connecting rods, ARP bolts, U12 SR20DET balanced and micropolished crankshaft, ARP Head & Main studs, Cometic metal head gasket, Z32 piston oil squirters, Jim Wolf Technology S4 Camshafts (0.464" lift, 266* duration), HKS Rocker Arm Stoppers, 1mm oversized stainless steel Manley valves (31.15mm intake, 35.15mm exhaust) with a 3-angle valve job, bowl port/blend for the head, JWT Titanium valve springs, JWT Bronze valve guides, new OEM water pump, new OEM oil pump, new OEM timing chain & tensioner.

http://www.g20.net/gallery/data/3479/A_mar_16.jpg (http://www.g20.net/gallery/data/3479/mar_16.jpg) - http://www.g20.net/gallery/data/3479/A_mar_17.jpg (http://www.g20.net/gallery/data/3479/mar_17.jpg)

I had to do an emergency turbo upgrade upon installation of this engine. Luckily I had a Disco Potato laying around that I was planning on using after I had broken in the motor. So, using a U12 DET manifold from one of my old engines, I am boosted complements of a Garrett GT2860RS turbo with a 0.86 a/r turbine housing (Swaintech coated).

....

Other performance mods include the HotShot frontmount intercooler & piping kit, GReddy Type-S blow off valve, Nismo S13 fuel pressure regulator, K&N air filter, 3” mandrel bent turbo back exhaust with HKS Carbon-Ti muffler, VersaCruise ground wires, Walbro 255lhp fuel pump, Z32 fuel filter, Modine Radiator, Nismo oil filler and radiator caps.

http://www.g20.net/gallery/data/3479/A_mar_10.jpg (http://www.g20.net/gallery/data/3479/mar_11.jpg)

The car was converted from automatic to manual, so I’ve done some upgrades to the drivetrain as well. I’m using a SE-R VLSD 5spd transmission with an ACD street/strip clutch and heavy duty pressure plate, stock flywheel, B&M short throw shifter and Energy Suspension polyurethane shift stabilizer rod bushing (helps so much with the 1-2 upshift!).

....

G20.net: Do you have any dyno numbers ?
SR20DETg20girl: Not at the moment. I would love to dyno with this engine, but still have a mystery noise to figure out before I bite the bullet and turn up the boost. I plan on running about 14-18psi daily, I just haven’t gotten around to installing my fuel rail or injectors yet. (Actually, I haven’t installed them on purpose. I know I won’t turn the boost up without proper fuel supply, so this is kind of a safe-guard against myself, hah.) That’ll probably happen sometime this summer.

....

G20.net: What suspension modifications have you made to the car ?
SR20DETg20girl: I’m using a set of Daiyama coilovers (spring rates: 7kg/mm front, 5kg/mm rear) with a JIC Magic carbon fiber front strut tower bar, Carbing rear strut tower bar, Addco rear sway bar and SuperPro polyurethane bushings.

http://www.g20.net/gallery/data/3479/A_mar_9.jpg (http://www.g20.net/gallery/data/3479/mar_9.jpg)

I just got new tires, BFGoodrich T/A KDW-2 225/45/16(not shown), that I am really looking forward to enjoying, but unfortunately my clutch destroyed itself two weeks ago and I only have 60 miles on the new one which means no fun-time until it’s broken in. :(

....

G20.net: Any cosmetic modifications to the exterior ?
SR20DETg20girl: Nothing major, just a carbon fiber hood and trunk, tint, and JDM Primera amber corner lights and grill. A few aerodynamic dents and weight reduction scratches too :teeth:

http://www.g20.net/gallery/data/3479/A_mar_5.jpg (http://www.g20.net/gallery/data/3479/mar_5.jpg) - http://www.g20.net/gallery/data/3479/A_mar_6.jpg (http://www.g20.net/gallery/data/3479/mar_6.jpg)

G20.net: How about the interior ?
SR20DETg20girl: Relatively tame. Bride Ergo2 seats, mostly because I do a *lot* of driving and wanted good seats since I have a bad back. A Nismo titanium shift knob, Redline shiftboot, Broadway mirror and an auto to manual seatbelt conversion - that's pretty much it.

http://www.g20.net/gallery/data/3479/A_mar_14.jpg (http://www.g20.net/gallery/data/3479/mar_14.jpg) - http://www.g20.net/gallery/data/3479/A_mar_15.jpg (http://www.g20.net/gallery/data/3479/mar_15.jpg)

G20.net: Have you made any upgrades to the stock sound system ?
SR20DETg20girl: Yeah, my very first mod actually was a new head unit. It’s a Pioneer DEH-P4300 with Infinity Kappa speakers. There’s a *really* ghetto sub & amp combo in the trunk (two Bazooka 10”s) and I have my iPod hardwired to the receiver. Oh, there’s a CB radio too for road trips, that’s always a lot of fun :p

....

G20.net: Any future modifications we should look out for ?
SR20DETg20girl: I don’t know if I should call them dreams or plans or what. The fuel rail and injectors will go on, the boost will go way up, that is a given. I’d like to maybe upgrade to a larger turbo depending on how I like this one. Maybe upgrade the axles too if I have the cash. I’m thinking paint will happen within the next year or so, a similar color to what it is now, charcoal, but with a subtle bronze tint to it to match the wheels, like light hitting it during a sunset. I’d like to eventually redo the interior as well, it’s pretty gross right now – black carpet, reupholster the back seats in black with Bride graydation fabric inserts (to match the front), reskin the door panels in black leather with more of the Bride fabric, and do the headliner and pillars in charcoal suede. But that’s a long way off…

http://www.g20.net/gallery/data/3479/A_mar_12.jpg (http://www.g20.net/gallery/data/3479/mar_12.jpg)

G20.net: How and when did you first find G20.net ?
SR20DETg20girl: I don’t honestly remember exactly since it was so long ago, I’d say about 4 years or so. I know it involved me cutting classes in highschool to research the car on the interweb. I found the Automotive Forums site and consequently stumbled across Gnet :nerd:

http://www.g20.net/gallery/data/3479/A_mar_8.jpg (http://www.g20.net/gallery/data/3479/mar_8.jpg)

G20.net: How has this site benefited you ?
SR20DETg20girl: Wow, I can’t even begin to answer this fully. I can’t imagine my life without this site. Seriously. I’ve made lifelong friends, had some absolutely incredible experiences, learned more than I ever could’ve thought possible, and saved a lot of cash. Without this site, I’d probably be driving a stock G and definitely wouldn’t have as many great people in my life. I am eternally grateful to Gnet for all it has contributed to my life.

http://www.g20.net/gallery/data/3479/A_mar_7.jpg (http://www.g20.net/gallery/data/3479/mar_7.jpg)

G20.net: Any last comments you would like to make ?
SR20DETg20girl: My car hates me and lives in a perpetual state of brokenness. Without Gnet, I would’ve given up a long time ago. I love you all :flowers:

Almost as good as you :naughty: Hit me up when you're in town so you can make fun of me and my slow Gi am gonna be back in philly as of april 1. i'm shipping the car home though so i don't know when she'll show up. but we *definitly* need to get together sometime soon. how long has it been now, almost two years? and call that f*ckhead chris, tell him to come kick it. it's like he fell off the face of the earth i haven't talked to him in foreverCongrats Ains well deserved. I like those tires too, i've had my eye on them so let me know how they perform.which, the yokohamas or the BFGs? the yok's were a great value for the price. i got about 45,000 miles out of them, somewhat noisy, decent grip, okay in the rain. the BFGs i haven't had a chance to 'play' with yet since i am still breaking in my clutch (a whole 76 miles on it so far, woo!) i am taking it easy.Props on the awesome car Ains... & props for responding to every single post in your MOTM thread! :D
My favorite pics are the ones in motion :thumbsup:i figure if they took the time to post something, then the very least i can do is write a response and say thanks :) those pics are old man, they make me sad, that was the last motor, the smokey one. i had a bunch more highway shots from that day but they all have a cloud following me. hah.clean and jdm is the way to go.. hot ride. forsure.ask mitch to post up the "unclean" picture i sent him... it's wonderfully disgusting!

It's about damn time, you've been a valued member from before my time. I remember back when I first joined I saw your car and the swap and I said to myself "daaaaaamn, one day" I'm still not there and probably never will be comparable to yours. Anyways, congrats...very kind of you, but in all honesty, the car isn't really anything special. she is more a byproduct of frustration than anything else. things break and i replace them with stronger things to keep from breaking again. that's it. nothing special. just keep working hard and breaking parts and uh, maybe one day you'll be where mine is :pCongratulalationes Ainsley..... I love your ride so much.... It's a bad ass. Why they took to long to make you MOTM... Great jobcause i didn't feel the car was "ready". it's not the mods fault, it's mine ;)Congrats ! Beautiful car ! Very nice; hope to be able to see it with my own eyes one day. :cool:we have never been to canada, and it is one of the places on my take-my-car-here list, so maybe one day!congrats Ainsley! well deserved indeed!thanks bruce!Congratulations Ains ;)...you deserve it girl, it was a about time for you to be MOTM , after all you've been through...Keep up the good work!! thanks :) hopefully this engine will last longer than a year. it's already been 6 months, i'm halfway there! :teeth:omg ainsley let's make babies right now in celebration of your new award.hahah bring it on ronny! perv :p

You need to go back and re-read that parts list you have in the motor then come back and tell me it's nothing special... :p

Awesome! Well deserved, VA Beach Kev hump 2006 coming soon! :)yeah i haven't broken the news yet but here goes-- i'm not 100% sure if i'm going to be able to go this year. i will hopefully find out within the next month or so. maybe i'll send a picture of her to the house so she can be there in spirit, just in case. hah.You need to go back and re-read that parts list you have in the motor then come back and tell me it's nothing special... :pseriously, it's really nothing major. i would've loved to have gone all out... stroke to 2.4 liters and use sick internals (carrillo rods FTW) but had a budget and just wanted enough to ensure a strong engine and limit the potential for problems in the future.honesty.... not flattery... actually u were the 1st gnet member i started chatting with.. damn that was a long time ago.. doesnt seem like it though..yeah dude, we go way back. i am glad to have met (er, intern(m)et) you! :teeth:congrats girl.....your car is one mean ride....hopefully it will be ready for the va beach ride.see above :(man, i give big props, this car is hot and probably fast as hell, congrats!probably. hah. i think it's probably fast too, but i have no idea.she will smoke your ass regardless. if you got equal power than yoyu will miss a gear cuase you were checkin her out.at first i thought you were going to make some reference to that old engine that literally would "smoke" everyone but then i realized you were just being a sweetheart *awww* :flowers:

Very well put together car!! I love the wheels, seats and head work, etc!!

I have a quick question regarding the seats. When you installed them, did they move the seating position down, up or is it in pretty much the same location?

I am thinking of getting some seats for my G, because I'm really too tall for mine. :-)

thanks.

thanks.you can position them on the brackets either stock, forward, or further back. my passenger one is in the normal position but i have the drivers one mounted as far forward as it can go (i am pretty short) i'm sure you could just mount yours further back and you'd be fine...

woot, drexel fan club! hah, jk.
but yeah, we should all get together one day and hang out and whatnot. there is a serious lack of carpeople on campus this year, so i think we need to stick together :)

chris, crazy you saw my car today. it was only there for a few hours. i had to *beg* the construction guys to move one of their barriers to let me park cause i was out at a friend's last night and didn't get back to campus until 9am today and drove around for, no shit, two hours trying to find a spot (no luck). the car's gone now (finally found a legit spot) but please don't judge me, i'm sure you saw how incredibly disgustingly filthy she is. i can't afford to give her a bath right now, but i promise she's a lot prettier when she's clean. i feel like such a bad mother :*(

haha my jetta is twice as dirty from being down in the city so dont worry about it. I was mostly just admiring the nice seats and wondering what was under the hood. Now I know from the interview.I was pretty surprised when I went to the site on your plate that you were on the front page.

I wish i was still at Drexel sometimes...Philly was a much nicer college town than Newark probably ever will be. The roads around here are full of potholes and I'm sure will pay hell with my S-techs and AGXs once they're in, but oh well...

Good to hear you and your G are back in town, Newark isn't that far from Philly, so if there's every anything G-related going on at good ol' Drexel...let me know!

actually, i kinda try to keep it somewhat semi-dirty as a theft-deterrant thing, ya know? parking on the street scares me, stupid drexel doing stupid construction on the stupid garage (wow i sound bitter. wait, that's because i am). i'm pretty surprised i'm on the front page too, considering i am the march MOTM and it's midway through april already, not that i'm complaining or anything ;) do you keep your car on campus? i'd like to see it. oh, and strangely enough, you are the third person this week to see my car on campus, come to this site, and contact me about her. should i be scared? hah.
