I have a 99 G20 automatic, and I am looking to drop in a SR20VE in it w/ the 6 speed auto transmission. I'd like to know what all would I need for the swap. If anyone could help me out, I'd really appreciate it

i thought we couldn't use the VE CVT transmissions, not because we dont have the ECU for the tranny because some importers do include that, but rather OUR USDM ecu's dont know HOW to use the CVT ecu.......
might wanna do some DEEPER digging on sr20forum. this topic has been raised only lightly here but i'm quiet confident to say that we can't use them :(

Check out the blog in my sig. Sure it's for an OBDI B13, but it's close to what you'll need for your OBDII P11 as far as the build is concerned.
BTW, I don't get what you're "polling"...

edit:
I didn't realize that you wanted to use the CVT. I don't have any direct knowledge, but I'd suspect that you'll at least need the tranny ECU and some specialty harness (to the WOT sensor on the TB) to get all your bits to talk.
Good luck!

Are you talking about using the original transmittion from the G20, or use the VE's transmittion? ECU is going to be your problem. Search on SR20forum, as suggested above...

I have contacted the shop today. They said I will need a ve ECU. to engauge the VVL. Yes the transmission does have a CVT unit. I have made a few phone calls to my importers from Trinidad and Japan. My car should be on the road @ latest end of next week if i have to order a shift linkage from japan. I will keep you'll posted

Ricky - this is a bit off topic, and just for my own interest in a VE swap in the future, but how much are you expecting to spend, having the shop drop the motor in for you?
Thanks

You don't need a VE ecu, you can get your current ecu tuned by Calum, or JWT. If you search you might find a member who is selling a VE ECU on ebay......
Personally I wouldn't bother with the CVT trans. Its been pretty well established your car is going to feel dog slow and the amount of effort it takes to swap it is better spent on a 5 speed swap.
If you do plan on going CVT you'll need the tranny computer and the proper harness.. Don't forget your interior bits either like the shift selector trim plate and updated console plate.

I am spending $1,600 from the shop I am going through. I've rented a Right hand drive Primera, and the experience i had with the automatic is far better shifting than the manual. Granted you cant slam gears and actually control your rpm range. There is no lag as far as moving from gear to gear. The fastest I took it up to was 160km. Pretty fast for a small island w/ not mouch staright away.

Stay away from the station wagon transmission it defeats the whole purpose of your VE install. It is a power robbing SLUG. Follow the KISS rule especially if this your first swap.
There are several ways to activate the VE cams and two solid ECU options. Search
BTW: I'm the member with the JWT ECU on ebay. Our VE swap started and ran beautifully at the first crank of the key using this ECU. If you have the engine in hand you should give this serious consideration.

you don't need a ve ecu to engage vvl, you can use a solenoid/window switch
