sr16 vvl, sr20 vvl. Which one is better? I know the sr16 comes with a 5 speed tranny, and the sr20 vvl comes with the auto, so you dont really waste the money on a useless automatic..... i know the sr16 vvl came in the sentras in japan, and they are a 1.6 litre. the sr20 vvl is a 2.0 wich came in numerous vehicles trough out europe, japan, and a few other countries around the world.... my question is, which one is best? which one can handle boost the best?(if possible at all) and wich one is the easieast to drop in a p11?

I want one to start prepping it.....

both are the same as it goes for install
Get the 2.0 as it will give more power

well, i figured that out. Its a 20 percent increase in power just by getting and sr20ve rather than the sr16ve...... but are their internals both as strong? are they both 8k rpm revers?

Don't go crazy with the boost on a ve. The 2.0 is 10:4:1 compression, and the 1.6 is 11:1. And Sentras in Japan didn't come with the SR16, it was the Pulsars and I believe the Lucino (200sx).

nice! thanks for the correction. Now.... does the difference in compression make up for the litre size? wich one do you guys recommend for going all motor? i preffer turbo, but i ve herd that naturally aspirated iz more fun.... i woulndt mind trying out some n/a powered motors.....

so what do you guys think......sr16ve or s20ve?

Ok, my 2 bits worth on your last question.
To answer that question for myself I would base it on what you want out of the car. If you want a car you're comfortable with for a long time, the SR20VE would be my choice due to the difference in torque. With as heavy as G20's are, a low torque motor would try my nerves after a while.
If your plan is to have a car that is fun for a while with no plan on long term ownership, then a SR16 would be ok. I've been with cars for a while that rev well and are "free breathing". Makes driving more exciting for sure.

N/A is alot of fun. but i might try putting a supercharger on my car. (now lets see how long it is before someone tells me it's a stupid idea (again))

Superchargers are a pretty stupid idea.

Not a stupid idea, but you're in the wrong section. :p Chris just posted a thread today with pictures of the supercharged B13 SE-R she built a while back -- she just bought it from her ex-boyfriend. Supercharging is cool and different; however, VVL is easier, turbo is more flexible in terms of adding power (much easier to up the boost), and you will have to remove your AC to fit the supercharger in the engine bay, which I doubt you want to do since you live in Arizona.

If you still want to supercharge, do some searching for Chris's old thread on building the SE-R, and then post any more questions in the Turbo section. :)

take a VE head and drop it on a DET block if you want to boost it, that will lower the compression of your motor (not sure to what number, but definitely lower than the 10:4:1) this way you can run less boost and get more power than a regular SR20DET, and your VE will be able to safely handle boost

edit: yeah wrong section

The SR16VE came outta japan in Pulsars which are a little light car

SR20VE came outta japan in Primeras/bluebirds which are big heavy car!!

When comparing if a manual conversion has been done to the Primera the Pulsar would most likely be the faster car because of the lightness of the car and the car has been tuned probably to run with a manual!! But as soon as you tune the SR20VE in the primera for the manual and up the rev limit from the crappy 7,100rpm to 8,000rpm :naughty: The primera will out preform the Pulsar!!

Put in other words: Dont put a SR16VE into a Primera/G20 because they are too heavy!! :p hehehehe!!

Keep in mind that the sr16ve came with slightly hotter (higher performance) cams, to go along with the higher compression.

So, you could get a sr20ve and then put in sr16ve cams, or get the even better N1 cams for the sr20ve motor.

Btw, the sr16ve cams should get better mpg, due to the smaller lift on the lower rpm lobes.

well i thought the 1.6 could be converted to a 2.0, and would have better cams and more compression. It is just a "de-Stroked" 2.0 so u just put back to normal and u have a better performing 2.0 than the sr20ve. Maybe im being stupid but i would go for either one (1.6 or 2.0)

I dunno maybe u guys know something i dont?

as far as boosting the ve. the stock bottom end on the ve is the weekest sr bottom end.

Aren't SR16VE's hard to come by?
