Some of you may remember my old G20 from quite a few years back:


This was my first G20 what really got me into P10's. Put a hurt on many V8's and daily drove the wheels off of it. Didn't keep up with maintenance due to work and engineering school and it eventually gave up the ghost and I had to park it.

Since I'm addicted to boost and can't keep well enough alone I decided to rip the motor out of a perfectly stock and clean B14 SE-R and proceed to replace it with a GTI-R setup and wrong color body panels:

Then life punched me in the ear and I tore my ACL so I could not drive a manual car for many months. I now had plenty of downtime to visualize and plan for the next project, which I knew was going to be another P10.

I had bought a 95 G20t back in '07 for $600 and a set of rims. It had rod knock and was automatic but I knew I could probably use it for something. After sitting for about 5 years and becoming a spider santuary it was time to bring it back to life:


I ordered a W10 DET and began ordering parts:


The plan was to build the ultimate P10 daily runner and to finally move all the parts I've collected over the years from my storage unit onto the car. Quickly I yanked the old stock motor out and ripped apart the DET for a rebuild before swapping it in:

Eventually got the motor all buttoned up and swapped in. After lots of test fitting and pulling and installing the motor about 20 times I ended going with an air to water intercooler setup. A 5 speed swap was done at the same time:

So lucky me i already had a jdm engine sittin in garage that i imported from japan few yrs ago with only 65k on it. So i pulled out the old one and installed this one. Oil changed religiously every 2500 miles.

To Be Addressed:

Exterior:
1) Front bumper infamous fade with a small crack in it at the bottom position.
2) Rear bumper dings and scratches
3) Driver rear quarter has dents
4) Car has small dings everywhere
5) Hood has rust bubbling through. Hood should be replaced or fixed.
6) Theres an underbody rust spot that was spotted. I was quoted at the body shop to cut and weld a new baseplate for the floor at roughly $300-$400.

Interior:
Two Flaws in interior :
A - Dead pedal floor carpet area has a hole.
B - small hole in passenger side rear door panel.

No rust busting through anywhere on the outer body of the car except the hood. Radiator support was inspected and is in excellent shape for its age. Surface rust can be spotted in patches around the engine bay.

Normally when you go out and buy a used car, you would normally have to check to see if brakes need replacing, tires need to be replaced, fluids need to be changed, oil needs to be changed, clutch needs to be changed or worry about any maintenance. You would also learn slowly of any hidden secrets that the owner fails to disclose to you. Here there is none, I fixed it all because im very anal and particular about my cars. This is also as close to a stock 99 G20 you can ever find. Not one piece of original harness or plug has been cut and is all still original in all four corners of the car.

The car has the current infamous lowered G20 shimmy at around 20mph at slow acceleration only. Upon asking everyone about this, its a common issue with the use of aftermarket axles. I learned this after replacing the axles with new aftermarkets three times. Still shimmying. There is no suspension bushing clunks famous with P11's in the front. The only clunking is the collar from the coilover clapping the third link when you hit bumps or potholes.

I haven't posted in the forums much as I'm been compiling info and parts but now that I'm making some real progress I figured I should start a build thread. But first, a little back story (fade to black) ...

While I'm not a huge Nissan fan I've always loved the B13 platform cars. The combination of: SR20DE, 5 speed vlsd trans, 4 wheel disc brakes, and light weight - Is a winning setup in my book. A couple years ago I was rocking a 92 Sentra that I had converted to a rally car. I was constantly impressed with how it performed.



Flash forward to a couple months ago and I'm on the hunt for a new daily. I'm scouring craiglist for a Sentra, 200sx, or NX2000 but can't find anything worth my time. After a solid week of searching I happen across a 96 G20 in a 5 speed with ~126,XXX miles. The price is nice and even though it's kind of the bastard child of the platform (don't forum rage on me) I ran out and bought it on the spot. I let the car sit for a couple months as I finished up and sold 3 cars (I'm an auto junkie). So, once I got rid of my BPT powered Escort, AE86, and Datsun 620, I finally had the time and room to begin wrenching on the G20. I put together a solid plan on what I wanted and immediately started digging through my parts collection to see what I had that would work. And ...

Started with ...

The interior was in great shape though and I realized I actually had a nice selection of parts that I could re-purpose for the G. I quickly took care of stage zero and moved on to some more complicated measures ...

Parts and progress ...

Poking around through my spare sets of wheels I found a brand spanky new set of 17x7" Enkei's ... These will do ...



Going to need some support for my bad back as well as some stability while autocrossing so I think /i'll drop in one of my spare racing seats ...



Thinking about an intake I discovered that if I chopped down the piping I had for my old 240sx it would fit nicely. So I cut it to length and added the two fittings for vacuum and idle air control.



Going to need some tunes as she's also a daily so I dug up some nice stereo equipment.



Besides some music audio I also wanted to hear a bit more of the car so I deleted the oem muffler and replaced with a Thrush unit and tip.



Not a huge fan of the touring spoiler ... But I mocked up a spare GSR wing and it looks like it came with the car. Can't wait to show you guys once it's actually attached to the G.



Pulled the lights and grill for modding ...



I'll be doing the "Sport" headlights but instead of blacvk the outer areas will be color matched to the new paint ...



Pulled the passenger side fender to remove a dent ...




With the fender removed I was able to plasti-weld in a replacement corner for the bumper where it was busted.



Started yanking the tails to smoke.



Fixed the ugly sport on the rear quarter.



Plan on debadging the car but I think I may add this to the rear ...

Anyways ... I have some Tein S Techs on the way which I'll be throwing on the stock struts for moment. Though I'll likely be upgrading those as well. I already picked out and picked up the new paint. I'm going to go a little different on color but I'll keep that a secret until it's done ;) . There's several little odds and ends and I'm sure I forgot a few things but this is basically what I'm working with so far.

If you're into autocross feel free to offer suggestions. I'll be running in the STS class.
