    Testing shock absorbers ((off car))

My rears are blown, but I do have some used rears i removed from my other p11 when I lowered it. How can I tell if unassembled shock absorbers are good?
They are not in the strut assembly. I can push in on them,

Should they come right out fast? out slowly?

Should I not be able to push them in? or should I need to force them in?

What are symptoms of good vs bad shock absorbers?

I know how to test them on the vehicle but how do I do this off the vehicle?

before any test you need to stand them up and push them in and out several times to cycle the fluid back to where it needs to be. Laying on their side makes them funky. When you push them down they should have a good resistance, be smooth, and not show any sign of fluid coming out. when you let go they should also come up reasonably slow and smooth, maybe 10 seconds from compressed to extended.
