A little teaser of a mod currently being tested for suitability

The bonnet dampers are very strong and when closing the bonnet the hinge area sits proud as the force needed to close them is slightly bending the bonnet. Once shut the bonnet just needs pushing down on each side but not an ideal situation. I have pm'd the seller to check if there is anything I can do to lessen the strength of the damper so I'll keep you informed...

Also added to the list of parts in needing of fitting thanks to Garnz for spotting these and Johnny for collecting and holding on to them for me till I pop up and collect them

ignore the oil stain it was quickly cleaned off

minor damage in need of repair

Managed to get started on fitting sound deadening to the boot area and rear panels of the car. I decided to trial the install on the N16 before undertaking the task on GTT so I am hoping to improve on my technique and ensure the best coverage and not waste any of this stuff.

So with hair dryer and seam roller in hand I set about lining the side where my stealth subwoofer install will be, as this area will really take a battering and there is nothing worse then panel vibration from the outside of the car.

I chose to not add a layer to the existing sound deadening but if anyone recommends adding a layer from previous experience please advise?

I was told overlapping the layers provided a better result even though it doesn't look the cleanest of installs

I found a small area of surface rust that needs treatment near the rear brace so I left this area and will cover once I have treated the rust.

Again I didn't overlap the exisiting layer where the spare wheel sits

Just the other side to do then to remove all trim panels from the tailgate and towards the roof and apply a layer

Thanks for looking hopefully the next update will include the latest install and sunroof and then the car getting a new layer of paint on...

Minor update as more sound-x gets fitted to the passenger door and I'm improving on my installation technique and each panel gets tidier and most importantly I'm not needing to add additonal layers (patchwork quilt like) due to not fitting the correct sized pieces.

A few images of the work unfolding:

Ok so July was meant to be crunch month for getting the N16 finished and making a start on GTT. Well that hasn't exactly gone to plan but finally we have got back on track and the engine swap and roof chop are well underway.

As I have never undertaken such extensive work before on my own I guess that was part of the reason for the delay as I had built it up into being such a major job and kept putting it off while doing other less important jobs.

So last week I managed to get some time off work and decided it was make or break time so with the help of the P11 engine how to written by Ant-Dat and one written by Phil (HappyHarrySco) I took to getting the engine out of my N16 so we could start to prep the engine bay ready for the new lump. As I went along the more I took out the less daunting the whole process became.

Here are some of the images taken of what is out so far all that is left to do is remove the exhaust and manifold and the fuel lines and then drop the subframe and lift the shell up and away from the lump.

While the coolant dried on the floor I decided to remove all of the interior ready for the roof to be cut off as we didn't want any burn marks to the interior when the welding begins. This gave me the ideal chance to check out the condition of the floor and address the few areas of surface rust that were present. I also decided to install some sound deadening to the panels on the floor and the cavities filled with stone guarding to retard any future tin rot.

That's all for now as the dirtier I got the less inclined I was to keep taking pictures, this process was followed on the donor car and the search for an air con condenser as the one on the donor car was shot to pieces. All in all the pace has picked up and hopefully the old girl will get back on the road within the next week or so.

Err it's practise for GTT so well worth the effort...

Ok a few more pictures taken today with the subframe & engines lowered ready to be dragged from the chassis ready for some tidying up & installation over the coming weekend. Finally we are a step closer to completion...

Well pul your finger out my N16 has been off the road since February and I want it ready and rolling within the next couple of weeks but now the engines are out time to get interior out of the donor and get the roof cut off ready to be fitted to mine. While that's being done I'll be getting all the air-con ready to go into mine so I'll go from entry level to sport + trim level.

Brief update no images though as I was too grubby to grab the camera. Both dashboards and heater matrix were removed and we refitted the air-con from the donor into my N16 & the dashboard is partially back in situ.

Next job is to refit rest of dash and heater controls to make sure all is working and take oportunity to tidy up wiring ready for rest of interior to be refitted. Windscreens out next and roof cutting to follow.

So glad had some help as two pairs of hands made light work of the task, hopefully a few more bits sorted tomorrow including cleaning up the engine & bay ready for paint.

Well thanks going out to DYP (Steve) for helping out this week after work with getting the N16 stripped down and ready for scrapping. The timescale was short and everything useable needed to be off and we managed it with the help of a few others. The sunroof and motor was removed along with the doors and tailgate, we also found an ingenius was to empty the fuel out of the tank using the washer fluid pump and a little Mcguyver impression by Steve. All went well apart from me getting covered in fuel again what is it with me getting sprayed with petrol???

Looking sorry for itself rear windows all smashed

Today was roof off day and time to get the rear beam off and the exhaust

A convertable now that would be a good idea

Roof off and ready for some fettling

With some help from a forklift we left the car on the drums and took off the remaining useable parts

    Ghetto scrappage FTW

Right after a tough decision I scrapped plans to try and get both cars sorted in time for Peterborough & JAE and concentrated on getting work finished on GTT. However the weather and other factors have allowed for a few more things to get sorted on the N16.

With engine out it was time to address a lil bit of rust in the engine bay so out came angle grinder and twisted wire wheel

    Bit more to do here

    The fiddly bits

Then onto the brakes I bought last year from Edk a bit of TLC was needed & wire brush

    Almost done

    Ready for some paint

As rain stopped play on GTT we started putting the lump back in after the bay had been sealed & stoneguarded

    Suspension on way out

Bit more work needed to clean up this corner before coilovers go on

I may get a few more bits done while waiting to sort GTT but most will get done after JAE including dropping the subframe and painting the lump as the Jenolite on the surface rust didn't quite go to plan and left the lump looking dirty and with white bits. []

    Thanks for looking
