N16 Daily runner gets a little attention

Right the car is still in the bodyshop the sills and interior has been treated with Waxoyl (smelly stuff but worth it). The plan of action on the bumper is underway and the plan is to press on with the install and bonnet cutting this week with completion towards the end of the week.

Now the alloys have come on leaps and bounds and were primered and DA'd ready for paint to go on once a decision on colour was reached. Now it just so happens another set of wheels for a pal were just completed in this particular colour and once I saw them I had to go with them as the colour for these particular wheels.

Here are a few snaps of the wheels currently and a few of the colour we decided on going for:

Popped over to check on the progress on the car and the waxoyl has covered inside every panel and those most commonly affected by rot. The phase 2 bonnet has been cut and apart from some welding is near enough done.





Grill is all repaired just needs finishing off and final fitting to the bumper





Also welded on a brace to hold the bumper up as the weight of it was pulling on the two top fixings



Here is a very rough picture of it all fitted together as just to give the rough idea of the soon to be finished look

Yep the grill and lower opening on the bumper will be meshed using the same type of black mesh as shown in earlier images of my bumper. Hopefully more pictures in the coming days once the work is finished off.

Popped over to the bodyshop to check out a minor issue that cropped up with the grill install, turns out the grill is slightly twisted either from the front end impact sustained when on it's previous car or from the initial moulding being slightly out.

This wasn't such a huge issue as it was decided to blend the grill into the bumper much like Ed originally did and here are some images of how out it was and the fibreglass being used to bond it to the bumper (picture heavy).

This was where the work was left for today on the bumper and with any luck the remaining work wlll get sorted and paint applied ready for the car to be back with me by weekend...

Ok managed to grab a few more pics of the bumper actually on the car with the bonnet and filler. Plan is to build up one side of the grill to suit the headlights and then apply the finishing touch to the bonnet that is due to have the finishing lip to the front welded into place to ensure a snug finish and hopefully the look we were after.

A minor update on the bumper bonnet work the bumper is now with grill and the kinks have been worked out now and all that is needed is the bonnet to be finished off and we will be ready for paint etc.

While the above was going on the banging 3" exhaust needed to be sorted so GTT was hoist up in the air, the centre section was popped off and a section cut off so the exhaust no longer caught on the heat shield by the fuel tank.

The exhaust now appears to be bang free and will take it for a full test drive speed bumps and all to check for any other issues but so far so good till the daily is ready and back on the road to take the strain.

Another brief update the bumper and bonnet are getting even closer to completion with another part of the lip/skin being welded and panel beaten to suit the required curve of the grill/bumper. A few pictures of where we are now with it and how close we are to being ready to paint.

In preparation for fitting my Meister-R coilovers I've been soaking the rear bolts with WD40 and wiring brushing the ends of the bolts to make things a little bit easer to get off. Hopefully the car will be seeing paint this week along with some lowering and time permitting a little bit of polybush lushness.

The end is in sight as yes you guess it paint was being applied to the front end and the side skirts and rear arch rust has been addressed. Hopefully all will be sorted and ready for collection tomorrow when I plan to through on the coilovers.

Another brief update:

Wheels are off car is on axle stands to allow proper fitting of the side skirts and the suspension, finally fitting the coilovers hopefully the ride height isn't too low as currently cannot adjust without adjustment spanners...

but that's another story!

Now the big dilemna with all the paint needed to go on the car front end, tailgate rust removal, rear arches, and possibly the roof if sunroof plans go ahead my paint guy is suggesting painting the entire car as only the doors are not sheduled for paint and well why not do it all so it's a complete match and once done will not require any further work etc.

So I need to decide if I'm willing to be without the car for a few more weeks while additional work is carried out or have the car ready and maybe make an appearence at Winchester???

Update time (no pics so don't worry of a picture overload just yet)

Both roofs were measured up and they are the same between the 3 & 5 door, the plan now is to remove the roof from the donor car and transplant it onto my car. Once this is done the car will be fully prep'd and painted ready for final undersealing of the chassis, fitting of coilovers and then back on the road ready for the summer months.

The paint options have also been confirmed the car will be staying the same colour KL0 but with 200 micron silver flake and another subtle flake to give a personalised look that I hope will set the car off and put an end to the cosmetic side of things.

Hopefully these works will get sorted early next month and I'll have some progress pictures of the other works being carried out.

Yes roof swap as I have a donor car that has an OEM sunroof so rather then cut the roof to install it my bodyshop guy is just going to skin the roof.
