    Swirl Marks?

I used crappy compound and got swirl marks, let's just say I wasn't paying attention to what i was doing, now my hood is swirl central and half the trunk along with the passenger side lol. I'm looking into taking it into a good detailer to cut the clear coat and level it. I know this requires some clear coat removal and since my G20 is going on her 13th birthday I was wondering if it was safe to have this done just once, all i want is the haze and swirls removed, it's not required to seal after the clear coat buffing right (cuz i kinda just want to do that part myself with some synthetic to save money from the detailer)

dont know but it seems the cheapest option is to just swirl the rest of the car so it matches. you might just start a new trend. people might be like damn that g20 got da hella swirl

I picked up some Turtle Wax Rubbing Compound, I know I'm an idiot should've just slept in, lucky me I noticed the swirls early on AFTER I already coated half the car! So when removing the compound in fear of making more swirls I misted the surface and used a wet microfiber cloth to gently remove the compound which I like to think was a smart idea, the haze isn't that bad, its not deep since i didn't use much force when putting the compound on i was pretty light handed.

EDIT: I know that using the compound is a crucial step in the process of removing swirl marks, and I just ended up adding more lol I got scared and backed away, I'm not experienced enough to use compound just yet.

Rubbing compound should only be used if there is heavy oxidation or deep scratches and never in a circular motion. Either up and down or side to side.
First: wash the whole car with dawn dish washing soap
second: do the whole car in a clay bar
third: try using a semi aggressive polishing compound (i dont like to use auto parts store stuff) but if thats what u use try the turtle wax polishing compound and do as I stated above with side to side motions this will start to take away alot of the swirls. Just be careful to not apply alot of pressure the polish will do most of the work.
fourth: Finish with a wax of your choice

Like I said the auto parts store stuff will work to a point but to get rid of all marks I would suggest Zaino (is what I use) paint restoration system. It will be alot of work but the results will be amazing.

the swirls aren't necessarily from the product. what kind of cloth did you use? was it perfectly clean, or did anything get on it? did you apply much pressure?

the easiest way to swirl your car into oblivion is to use bad cloths and towels. even good ones will add marks if you aren't careful.

i used to have these very soft egyptian cotton towels that i only used to dry my car, and i washed and dried them separately from everything else. i even cut off the ends of the towels because of the embroidered bits on the ends. no swirls, if i was gentle. then i decided to ease up on that, and i started adding swirls. now i do it that way again.

i agree, clay the paint, then cut it down. i'm not an expert on products, but if you want a weaksauce "compound" that won't swirl or cut too hard, try meguiar's ultimate compound. but yeah the mailorder/internet ones are probably better than the national name-brand ones at the store.

the most important thing is a totally clean, extremely soft cloth (preferably rather thick) and a gentle touch. also it's best to work at night, with a single light source, like a driveway motion detector or a garage light. sometimes i get out my work light and hold it up at different angles to see what i'm doing. with a single, focused light source (opposite of a bright, overcast day), you can see all the swirls and blemishes, and hopefully watch them disappear as you work.

    good luck!

I am a huge over reactor, woke up this morning grabbed my trusty cheapo ice polish paste, voila swirls are no longer visible, cutting the clearcoat for such a minor thing is something i felt was too drastic (and $$$) but i might still consider since you guys have been pretty knowledgable, thanks for the tips they are greatly appreciated!

get an orbital buffer and find a auto paint supply store and get mcguiers final step and work it in.

or i have over 10k worth of detail supplies and i can ship you some brilliant paint sealer thats really good at removing swirl marks as well as giving a really high gloss but never use autozone waxes unless by hand and an orbital buffer is needed for best results
