    5th Gear Noise

This weekend I had a new 5th gear and 5th gear synchro installed in my transmission (93 G20). Now when in 5th I hear two different high pitch whines, one when I'm in gear, and a slightly lower whine under load. I'm not getting any strange vibrations through the stick or anything, so I was wondering if anyone else had experienced this and could tell me what it is. Thanks for your help.

Take it back and have them do it correctly. That's not right.

The trans is getting dropped again this weekend. I was just wondering what could be causing it.

buummp for an old asssss thread.

anyone find a fix for this? same situation as above, onlye whines in 5th gear and the pitch gets higher as rpms raise so you dont hear it as much, but while riding 5th in low rpms its really noticeable.

THOUGHT it might be a ground issue but in the tranny? any one have any ideas....

My guess? Sounds like a bearing.

We had this issue about a year ago.... it made an excellent excuse to also get new mounts/clutch/pp.

Get it done (btw - have the 5th gear synchro inspected while tranny is out), fill 'er up with synthetic gear lube, and all will be right.

bah. i just did a clutch job with new tranny fluid.

in any case i'd opt for an se-r tranny for the gearing and lsd.....or the t model trannies. but dang...so i gotta live with this till this tranny blows or what...lol
