I figured since my headunit has 6 5volt pre-amps, i might as well put them into use.

METRA 70-7551, I got mine from eBay. Have 4.5v pre-outs and it's plenty loud.

i stand by the original install. 4 years down the line it still works flawlessly and no speakers have ever had any problems.
I like the metra adapter as well. If you have 4v pre-outs or better then you are set.
BRent
the Metra harness looks to be the simplest way to go. The less wiring work the better.
Although adjusting gains manually is also a good idea.
I have one question though, the Scosche ( sp? ) would be mounted where? Behind the head unit , or in a seperate location?
I'm gonna be upgrading my head unit after x-mas ( Bose HU are junk! )
this is now the easiest an probably correct way to install
but u can still use other methods
when he wrote this thread this probably wasent out yet
but yeah this works perfect exactly the same and one side is alreadu plug n play for u
everyone from 350z to altimas use this
i dont know how many time i have to say this. this will prob be the last
end discussion
u have to get the nissan antenna adapter. that PAC OEM-1 box thing is internally identical to the Scosche. Only difference is the additional wiring harnesses included with it.
imo the pac is overkill, but i have installed them on other cars, not nissans and they work really well.
although i would bypass the amp all together and get a decent deck to get good quality sound and features. pioneers have good sound processors for the price, sony did(back in the day). other decks that can be found for not too expensive are eclipse, they are ugly as sin but have excellent sound processors in their mid to high end decks. but to get better sound then stock you cannot go get your $100 wal mart sony, pioneer, kenwood it just wont sound good. nissan used clairon to make the p10 stereo and in the early 90's clarion was a very different company. they had high end products that were very good quality.
you get what you pay for in stereos for the most part.
Do you have to have the level converter? I just installed my older alpine hu that I bought 3 years ago. And I have little to no bass at all, still have the factory Bose speakers. Any suggestions thanks
If u have a line converter, try adjusting it. If not adjust your deck. Sounds like it's not a wiring prob since you get sound. You may have crossed the positive and negative speaker wires causing them to be out of phase. Re check to make sure ur pos. and neg. r hooked up correctly
I just got a new stereo (2V) and it has the low volume issue using the Metra RCA adapter. I can still return the stereo.
So which will give better sound 4V+ head unit or the PAC OEM?
Thanks
Hey Guys, just wanted to ask a quick question.
I called crutchfield to order the JVC KD-HDR50 Head unit. It has a pair of 2.5V outputs. Now i read through this whole thread and it seems like you need 4V outputs or better to use the Metra 70-7551 harness. Crutchfield doesn't have the PAC-OEM 1 harness, they only have the PAC-OEM 2 harness. They also have the Scosche, but I think the Metra and PAC ones would be easier to use. What should i do? Order the Scosche or hope the PAC-OEM 2 works just like the PAC OEM 1 mentioned in this thread?
They have a antenna adapter called "12040NI10 Nissan Antenna Adapter Diversity antenna to Motorola M & F"...is that the one we need?
Now the last thing I need to pick is the kit to make it fit into my Double-DIN opening. Any idea which i should pick? Im sure some of you guys have bough from Crutchfield before.
Please let me know as I'm eager to order this head unit! Thanks again.
thanx Chickenwing a lot man if it wasnt for this i dont think i would have changed my deck lol i got a nice deck now
Hey, just wanted to add a tip for those screws on the side of the factory radio, if you have a Dremel tool, put a cutting tool on it and make a slit in the screw deep and big enough to use a nice size flathead, worked wonders for me, took a total of 5 min to do.
Btw thanks a bunch chickenwing, i've been staring at your post for nearly a year waiting for the day that i put a new headunit in. helped out a bunch
