Maybe it was just way over filled from the factory ???

Should be 3 litres (3.17 quarts) afaik for P11....

    More for P10, 3.6 litres (3.8 quarts)

    That's from a '00 FSM

Manual transaxle gear oil; RS5F70A/V; 6-3/8pt (US); 5-1/4pt (Imp); 3.0 (Liter)

I'd just remove the fill plug and let it drain down to the bottom of the fill hole.....

Well, thanks for that bro... amazing that through all my searching, I never once read the P11 is 3.1 quarts... In fact, everything I've read was on P10's only... maybe the P11's just aren't old enough yet to be changing their manual transmission oil yet? Info is very limited, and I've been trying to find something from PhatG20.net on it but haven't found it yet... but, thanks man, I appreciate this a lot!

No problem Nick, if you want the '00 FSM, I'll see if I can upload it to my webspace, then PM you a link to d/l it...

Oh you'll need the setup file too as it's one off Adam's site, I'll upload that too...

Gimme some time though, as I only have a 512 down/256 up connection and it's approx 30MB

one more question then I'll quit bugging you but, when it says 6-3/8pt(US) 5-1/4pt (Imp); 3.0 (Liter)... that's a bit confusing... is that saying that 6-3/8 US pints = 5-1/4 UK pints = 3.1 US Quarts, correct? Just want to clarify...

Oh, and I appreciate the FSM download, but don't kill your self on my account bro, I'm gonna try and get it off PhatG20 still, I just don't have the "rights" or somethign right now, I'm waiting for approval, but, if you don't mind, I may have you do this if it doesn't work out for me man...

Yep, it's in a table showing capacities for different stuff in those 3 units. US Pints, UK Pints and Liters. Convert any of those into Quarts and you'll get 3.1# Quarts...

Do you want the FSM ??

When I replaced the manual tranny fluid in my 96 Touring, I added a tube of "Limited Slip Differential Additive,", because of the LSD on the Touring models. When I read the label on the Coastal 80W90 Gear Oil tyhat I was adding, it said that for LSD's, the oil should only be used as a top-off.

The G20 LSD is a sealed viscous LSD. The LSD oil is for mechanical LSDs afaik......

thank you for the nice write up and details. that drain plug was a real bitch to get off, i just took it down to J Lube and my friend loosened it for me and i did the rest of the work..

one thing i like to add. the drain plug does have a magnet on the end of it to collect metal shavings in the fluid. this should be cleaned while the car is draining before it goes back on the car.

just a quick question, when should this procedure be done? is there a mile marker or just when the transmission is acting up?

it depends, some people do it every 30k but if your car is close to 100k and hasnt had this done, then it definitely should be on the list.....

im not sure, there is a maintinance schedual in the fsm. if your tranny is shifting harder than it once was i would probably say change the oil.
