Is the RR motor worth having? Also can you fit a VVL head on a RR de bottom?

The DETs are high port non roller engines....
The Pulsar/Sunny GTi-R is different from them all as it has solid lifters.....
I was looking at internal parts yesterday and that kept coming up.

yup, actually the sr20ve's, minus the 20v iinm share the same block as the rr sr20de.
it'd actually be cool to take a sr16ve head and slap it on a RR block. tap and drill for the oil sending line and you have an instant sr20ve with sr16ve cams.
I still don't have a bloody clue ............... Apart from the covers being different, what is a None rolling rocker motor ?
The roller rockers have rollers where the cam contacts the follower. Earlier motors have a sliding contact there.
Look closely under the cams, you'll see a roller.

Ahhhhh OK
How comes some SR20's have oil spray bars & others don't ?![]()
ok..i own a 00 p11..my car originally came from the US as my odometer and such is in Miles..so my chances of it being a RR motor are pretty good? is the RPM range on a RR motor and a non-RR motor different? such as redline?? mine red-lines at about 6800-8200..or somewhere in the range from my recolection.
^mmm sweet^
ok sorry if this is another dumb question. bare with me, i haven't been part of the nissan family for too long,so im still learning sertain things. But what is the advantage of a RR motor over a non RR motor. or even further a VVL or whatever it is motor?
is it like hondas kinda like you have your basic b18 non vtec motors compaired to your b16s and b18c vtect motors???
thanks
The spray bar ones are not RR heads, when they went to RR the cam is oiled from below too, so the spraybar wasnt needed anymore.Originally Posted by J..M

Ahhhhhhhhh ....... I ain't got no s[pray bars that I do know .......... Cos I bought some stuff to clean em out a while ago & .............. OMFG no bars ........ Saved me a bitta workNice

More HP, more torque, less friction, at a lower RPM range so its peppier.Originally Posted by JDM DA
The RR compared to a VVL motor is very similar, other than having no VVL, a better flowing head altogether, and a couple of other differences (higher compression etc..) its pretty much the same....but then its not hehe
That is from the roller rocker thread I made... I test fit them and that is the results that I have... Just wanted to clear any misconceptions... and I don't think that the RR arms are taller, I just believe that the baffle in the VC is larger in order to remove the legendary "catch can" that pre-RR SR20's have...Valve Cover Compatibility Information!!!

Here are some pics...The RR SR20 Valve Cover Will Not fit on the Normal SR20 Heads... The Baffle hits the Oil Squirter Bolts and does not sit... So those of you that like the style, please do not buy one... I assume the same for the VE Valve covers as well... But am not sure about VE. On the other hand... The Regular SR20 Valve Cover Will fit on the RR SR20 Heads...
My RR Cover on My Regular 98 DE head... = No Go...
The Oil Squirter Bolts on both sides don't clear the Baffle Plate in the Cover... They do now allow the Cover to seat... Not sure about VE, but I think it might be the same...
Here is the Baffle I'm talking about on the RR VC...
My Old Regular DE Cover on RR Head... There you have it... It fits... My NEW DE cover is painted and ready to put on though!!! Can't wait... Swap still in progress though

My $0.02, sorry for reviving this... he he
Lol, exactly what I said back in post 4![]()
What we need is a pickkie of a roller ........... connected to its dubry whatsit so we can all see whats what .......... Don't ask me I've recently sealed up ............ Never wanna go in there again............... Same fer the bottom end too

HERE YOU GO!!!! he he.. Here's mine, if you can't see that then your blind!

The spray bars are to decrease the friction on the stamped rockers from the cam lobes... since roller rockers have "rollers" there is not a need for oil... Friction is negated, well its decreased because the cam just rolls instead of rubs the rocker... Bang Bang!Originally Posted by J..M

If you peer into the oil filler you can see the spraybars if it has them.

are the distributors different on the RR and non rr motors?
