How do mice get in cars?

I keep hearing posts about how some stored cars have rodent nests in them. How does that happen? I mean, if the car is in good condition and the doors, hood, trunk are locked, how can rodents get into the car? Anyone care to elucidate how this happens?

Also, where does one check for rodents in cars generally?

why. did they invade your car? i figure they do it how anything else does -- slim jim the door open, chew through a couple of wires, start it up, and make regular costco cheese runs when youre not looking.

No, they're not in my car. I just wanted to make sure that none ever get in any car I own so that's why I'm asking.

How do they get into the airbox? I mean, there's no way they can jump that high right?

Most of the time this happens when cars are stored outdoors for long periods of time. As as in fields or in barns. However, it can happen in driveways or even garages. If the vehicle is run regularly, it is least likely to happen. Not many creatures like HOT engine compartment temperatures.

You'll know if rats/mice are messin with your ride when you drive your car from its parking space and find a bunch of munched up rubber/foam/insulation on the floor and maybe even oil . I know this really well because they had a feast on my cousins porsche carrera in the garage. Basically they like all that crap for making their nests especially that braided hi-temp mesh insulation stuff and foam. I know how they get in there too because I saw one run out. What they do is jump at your tire thread climb it far enough to push their backs against the wheel well and climb in the engine bay. I killed them all in the last 2 weeks Some were huge. Lesson learned don't leave the dog food in the garage. Recently, My sister's friend left her new Xtera in her garage for a few weeks while on vacation and when she came back she broke down on the side of the road because some rats chewed up her freakin hoses. She knew she had a bad rat infestation because the shit was everywhere, litterally. Good thing I park my G on the street..only because I can't get up my steep narrow driveway without scraping everything.
