Tires - how cheap should I be?

OK, I had posted about the 2 Goodyear Eagle GT-HR's that I can get for $45 each, installed. Great deal, but I can't find a matching pair, so I'm stuck wondering if I should go with 2 different manufacturers. I'm looking at the Falken Zeix AE-512's that some of you have recommended. Can get those for a decent price, though nothing close to the $45, so not really thinking a set of 4.

Anyway, what are your thoughts of running 2 different tires your car? Hopefully, they wouldn't look too different from the side...guess I should check the side tread pattern.

Actually, I've thought of one benefit to doing this...the Goodyears look more like a M&S tire than the Falkens, so could run those in the front during the winter, then change over to the Falkens on the front for the summer.

I personally think that running 2 different brands is tacky. I always hate when I see that on cars. I'd personally buy 4 cheap matching tires then 2 sets of "mid-range" of different types...

Exactly. Go in TireRack.com and you will find plenty of tires in your price range and all 4 can match!

for my factory wheels, i have 3 different brands of tires. for my 17s, they all match

Naah, none of these are cheap. The Goodyear's were the ones Tire Rack used, and called high performance, when they ran their "under inflated tire test" for their writeup. (pretty interesting read)

I do agree, though...different tires do look cheesy, though, if the side treads are similar, it might not be that noticeable.

I figured the $$ out...

With the $15/tire a local shop would charge me to spin and mount the tires, I'd be saving $45 total. It's cash...a pretty nice meal out...a good seat at the ball game...a few righteously good six-packs...you get my drift.

i'm running 2 diff sets of tires too.. but it wasnt by choice they came on my rims lol(bought used) if it was up to me, i'd go with all 4 of the same

If you arent driving like a freak.....not many tires (no matter the price) will do this to you. I would get those two...they sound good. And you know what opinions are like.....

Well... when I bought my Primera it had CEAT Spider tires.
In the dry they were driveable but in the wet they where simply dangerous. A simple turn to which every car could do with like 50 mph I had to let go off the throlle 'till I reached 35 mph. Otherwise I had massive understeer. No grip at all...

Yeah, that's what I figure. These are good tires, but I think it's boiling down to the matching issue. Who wouldn't want to save $11+ a tire (the $45/4 tires total), but the side treads, while not as different as snow and rain tires, do have different looks.

Think I'll wait a month or so, then order the Falken's. Thanks for your responses.

I have some General Exclaim UHPs right now. Awesome all around 3 season tire, cheap, but kinda sloppy at the track.

costco will give you some good deals on michellin pilots (thats what im using now they grip nice enough for me) and theyll align them, rotate them and balance them for free (not meaning the initial install i meant later on in the future as long as you have receipt)

Here you go $47 for "Falken Ziex Ze912 which replaces the best selling Ze512. It improves on the Ze512 on all areas..."

They also have Toyo Spectrum for $50 but of the two I would go with the Falken.
