    Harness install in my P10

So, a few have asked so here goes...

I have a Sabelt 3" web 4 point camlock installed in my P10 for track day use.

It snaps in and out so it's out of the way daily driving...

    Here's where it anchors:

Behind the fold-down seat behind the driver, I have an eye-bolt through the sheetmetal bulkhead backed by a 2" x 5" or so 1/4" steel plate.

It's drilled through a double thick part in the sheet near a crease so I think it's suitable for anchoring the rear leg. BTW, note that the rear leg is the anti-sub portion of the 5 point harness attached to the pair of shoulder fly-backs using some heavy duty washers as a link.

The outboard mount is another eyebolt drilled through the floor and backed by another piece of 1/4" thick steel.

The inboard mount is a piece of 3/16" thick by 1" steel bar, drilled and bent and anchored through an extended bolt that ties down the seat rail. The bolt is through, then the strap, then a backing nut.

Sure, it wouldn't pass SCCA tech, but it's strong enough for my purposes. BTW, with the B Pillar where it is in the G, I don't think that a harness and no cage is an issue. Especially if the stock 3 point belts pre-tensioners fire, I'll bet that you have as much "side-duck" as in the harness. I'll take my chances. Besides, I'm that much more likely to lose control if I'm in the stock belts sliding around on the leather than if I'm firmly cinched down and not fighting to stay put!

^ yeah even the fake ones are expensive.

How high is the mount in the back compared to your sholders? I want to install my harnesses but I think I should at least have a bar for the belts to go over that is above the sholders a tiny bit.

It's pretty much level with my shoulders. FYI, for you non-touring guys, you can slit the vinyl behind the headrests (93.5 up only) and you can access the eye bolt through there. Rest of the time the headrest can drop down to cover it up. Early cars are SOL though. You could use the furry screw holes to make a mount though (they're there for baby car seats so they should be strong enough...).

I think SCCA requires (for roadracing, not SOLO II) a 4" x 4" by 1/8" steel backing plate or something like that. Never seen any regulations that specifically allowed seat mount mounted harness attachments either...

I like red over green tho! $94 for harness PADS! Ludicrous!!

    Looks good Scott.
In my B13 the harness attaches similar, it clips into another deal in the back.
I'll have to take a closer look to see if your way would be better.
    My old Feedback

Regular belt for AutoX? No way! At least get a "Turner Belt". Basic WalMart quick release 2" web belt (Camo Ammo belts are like $5!) that you wrap around your torso and the seatback. Keeps you in place, though not meant to replace a standard 3 point of course!

Another trick I've used is to recline the seat and slide the seat back, jerk the belt to lock it, then slide forward and put the seatback up. Works well if you get the right "preload".

^ I've done that before. Easier to do with power seats.

Nah, that'd mean cutting the 't' leathers. I don't plan to track this car that hard, and a 4 point 3" harness is safer in an impact than a 3 point 2".

Hey, let's swap seatbottoms! Or you could advertise yours as "anti-sub belt ready"!

Of course there are those who would say that a harness is more dangerous in a rollover, but I'm not convinced, especially in a P10 with the door frames and B Pillars right there...

If you get a 6 point belt, you can mount it in such a way that requires NO drilling/cutting of seat bottom.. You basicly set it up so you are sitting on it and pull up to click in... *understand?
