Sup y'allz? I'm just trying to find out what the octane rating is for an SR20VE. Anyone know for sure and not guessing/assuming? Thanx!

im guessing you'd wanna run 91-93 which ever you find,
IIRC in Japan they have higher octane rating's at the pump.
"Generally, octane ratings are higher in Europe than they are in North America and most other parts of the world. This is especially true when comparing the lowest available octane level in each country. In many parts of Europe, 95 RON (90-91 AKI) is the minimum available standard (but is called Premium Unleaded), with 97/98 being higher specification (being called Super Unleaded)"
thats from wikipedia and im guessing would be the same for Japan, Asia.
No less than 91, but 93 or better if you can get it.
91 with a good and proper tune, otherwise 93 if you can get it.

if you are going for performance it is almost always going to go with premium.
well 93 is a hard find here in MN, but most of the blueplanet stations have some 92
we got 98 over here in maryland
sike, just playin, I say use '93 like everyone else says, if not, than '91
there are a few stores around here that sell 100, but i have not checked the price of that lately...
So wus wrong with 87 octane in a VE
99 P11: VE powered
nothing is wrong if you are grandma. the higher performance motors RECOMMEND premium. it will perform better. noone said that it would not run or work, but if you are putting a VE in, then you are looking for some kind of performance upgrade, right? or it was just there so you figured you would use it?
Dont even wast your time with pump gas, SR's run better on race fuel.
J/k. Like stated befor, 91+ or 87 if you don't care.
Putting lower octane in will cause massive detonation,,
If you run that way to long you'll end up with:
1. Mechanical damage (broken ring lands)
2. Abrasion (pitting of the piston crown)
3. Overheating (scuffed piston skirts due to excess heat input or high coolant temperatures)
To name a few..

a lot has to do with how you drive and the outside temp too..
For example, in the middle of winter, if I'm just doing easy slower driving (not fast shifting, not high revving), I just used regular 87 in my former SRT4.. but in summer months and at the track, ONLY 93 octane (sometimes 94)..
It just depends on your use.. if you don't get into boost on an SRT4 and drive below 4000 rpm on freezing days.. it is fine...
lots of speculation.. what does the actual manual say to use for these motors?
I've been running 87 since I got the motor. No signs of detonation at all but I havent run it with A/C and I'm also running lightweight pulleys on w/p and crank so there is less load on the motor. My timing is set to 15*
I havent heard any detonation nor have I seen signs when I did a plug change (flashlight down the hole and you can see the piston crown.
However now that i have a Calum I am doing a log with Premium (93) and Regular (87) to see what the temperatures are like as well as MPG
run 87 if your low on greenbacks; recommend you drive it like your a bus driver though. if money is not the issue go 91-93...... enjoy![]()
