[QUOTE=iamthejae;1162999]ok i installed my leds in my gauges cuz i got bored. then after i was done with that i went ahead and soldered led's and stuck blue vinyl on the hvac screen.

Does you happen to have a pic of the dash after the cars started? I'm just wondering if those warning lights still stay kinda lit after it startes and they go out. Or if they stay the way they are in the pic half lit from residual light bouncing around from the LEDS? Anyone?

i dont have a pic of the car started, i guess i could take one.

the lights do not stay lit up, i know what you mean about the leds staying kind of lit, but no they go out just as the way they did before (pre-led install).

    Great write up

What kind of vinyl did you put in the hvac screen to make it blue?

I did my gauges and hvac controls today
I installed all my gauge and control bulbs the wrong way then i put everything together and it didnt work... had to do it again ... ))
9 bulbs bulbs installed and all were the wrong way. My luck is crap... i thought it was a fuse

the vinyl i used was just purchsed off amazon.com it took me a minute to find it but i just kept searching for something simliar to: transparent blue (or red, or whatever color you what). then i found one that has adhesive on one side so i got it!

yeah the leds in the wrong way suck, i checked mine in the car before putting it all back together. although i didnt fix the gas light and found out the hard way by running out of gas 2 blocks from my house. so i had to walk and get some gas.

awesome write up, i just got a new stereo installed and it lights up blue so right now i'm going to try to do the hvac. when you said you did ur hvac and it looks spotty, is it ugly or is it just that some of the buttons light up differently?
and is there a arrow or something on the boards that show +/- on the hvac or did you have to measure it yourself before you started?

justed want to clear things up before i start, thanks.

    thanks man.

the havc is more spotty then the gauges which is a disappointment, but it still beats the crap out of not doing the mod!

the 4 led twist bulbs in the back of the hvac are easy, if they dont light up just rotate them. the defrost and recirculating air buttons already have orange and green leds, respectively. to get these to work you need to know the + and - of leds. generally the long leg of the led is positive. if still in doubt, consult the manufacturer or look at the led closely:

this picture answers more then you asked but look at the design of the led inside. this is how most leds look and how you can determine led continuity.

    another helpful pic.
note the smaller part is the +, and from a top view the smaller part is always + also.

    hope this helps

thanks bro for giving us more details. I'll try to order the LED's before the holidays and hopefully I'll have time to finish it up before I go on vacation.

i might be doing this soon. i noticed that one of my bulbs is burned out, so if i'm gonna go through the hassle of replacing one, i might as well swap them out for L.E.D.s

i agree, they are similar but still have enough differences that make it worth it.

id be willing to get that information on the site if anybody wants to donate a p10 cluster for a while. maybe i can find a p10 locally and get it ripped apart to get the insides exposed.

just a tip, 02 sport models only uses 2 bulbs for the whole gauges. Unless you wanna change your signal lights and high beam so it makes a total of 5 bulbs only.
