    Royal Purple Oil Filter

    Any one use them? I was changing my oil this weekend. Opened the OEM Nissan filter box...Found my old filter from last change inside. Guess I forgot to order more

    Anyway, ran over to Pboys and grabbed a RP filter. It is WAY smaller than OEM size. Any advantage/disadvantage to this? I heard ppl use Pathfinder filters b/c they are bigger and give more filtration. But I was also told that the smaller filter gives you better compression

    Any thoughts???

    That RP filter is about the same size as the Purolator PureOne that I use. I think there are two sizes for our cars.

    That being said...the only drawback is you'd probably need to be a little more concerned with the oil change interval, as the smaller filter will get full & clog sooner. But if you are changing every 3-4k miles...shouldn't be a problem. I change every 4k miles, and haven't seen a problem.

    the 9E filter fits our cars, but it's actually the 65F00 that's spec'd.

    65F is about the same size as the Royal Purple one you posted. FRAM's listing is ph6607, which is also similar size to the 65F.

    Nothing wrong with the RP filter, use with confidence.

    yup, the Royal Purple is the same size as FRAM's filters too.
    as always with these older cars, you're probably better off paying a little more for the oil instead of the filter and changing a little more often.

    Not buying it...whole system is pressurized, including the filter. The larger filter gives you an ounce or two more oil...and more trapping capacity. That's about it.

    Well he is obviously the foremost authority of automotive technology if he's the manager at Pepboyz!!!!

    Compression? Are you talking about engine compression? No.... Now was he calling oil pressure compression? Goes to show how much Mr. Manager knows, anyways, no, no more no less oil pressure from a smaller filter. Inlet / outlets are the same size, volume of filter has no bearing on oil pressure... my bad, i mean "compression". You should explain to Mr. Hotshot Manager that in a pressurized system its changes in the size of plumbing that affects pressure, not the size of the filter. That just means the oil will stay in the filter less time.

    Anyways, long way to say RPs filters are good. But you probably could've gotten the better PureOne for less Try that next time

    the "large" filter or the "small" filter, with the smaller one supposedly providing "higher and more consistent oil pressure which is ideal for race purposes".

    i know with hondas the hamp synergy filters are smaller. more consistent oil pressure being the positive.

    Nice, I'm changing my oil this weekend. I'll stick to the Purelator PureOne. . .

    FYI for Purolator filters (size-wise):

    PL14612 = 65F
    PL14610 = 9E

    I'm using PureOne PL14610 on the 99 without any issues.

    I'll just stick with OEM...I thought I had one more before the change, but when I opened the box an old one was in there. Sometimes I play jokes on myself (w/o even knowing).

    I never saw RP filters before and was drawn to their purpleness So I said WTH and tried it. My decision was based more on the purple than it was on the managers advice

    I usually go with a Mobil 1 filter. I've used Rp in the past, never had any problem. My internals are pristine.

    MObil are good filters as well, but once again, not as good as PureOnes. Its just a simple fact, the OEMs are really cheap as well. Do I gotta bust out the oil filter analysis AGAIN!?

    PureOnes are cheap and one of the best filters on the market along with WIX and Amsoil EoA filters. But waay cheaper than the Amsoil. I use the 14610 as well on my Titan and G20. SOme big ass ugly thing on the Supra, lol
