    Taking the plunge

I'm finally joining the darkside! Picking up the ve motor tomorrow from Japan Star Engines in NY! Getting it for $700 because my friends are picking up an
H23A vtec swap and a 2jzgte swap, so it was kind of a package deal. I can't wait to put this motor in and see what it can do! Daveracer, we have another project on our hands! I'm finally saying goodbye to DE-T performance after 7 years

Nice I'd be interested to see what you have to say about the drivability and comparison of power feel. Naturally it is kinda like apples and oranges, one is turbo'd and one's NA'd. But would be interesting to compare the two.

Dane- it's going into my p10

j-tek - I will be turbocharging the ve so I'll be using this

P10 goodness- I'll try it N/A first, but I will definitely transfer all my turbo parts onto this motor.

with the cost of the engine being low I would upgrade the pistons and rods and full bottom end blue print to ensure a reliable set up. the VE is week in the knees.
also the h23 blue top vtech is a pretty rare engine

Good point p10det. That would be down the line as I also have the slowport out of a p11I swapped in my p10. Thinking of a LS/VTEC type build on the ve. I would probably save that for 2011 though. This year, I wanna put the ve in, run it with the set-up on my car right now, and add a b14 tranny. Engine is super clean in and out, btw.

DE's are fun, but when I drove Daveracer's car and it was N/A... it just felt sooooo much stronger than a DE.

Sorry for not being clear. Yes, the ve set-up felt so much stronger than a DE with bolt on's. The thing was ripping tire on top of second gear when the vvl kicked in. I haven't driven Dave's set-up with the t25 kit, but he said it feels like a raped ape on 'roids. We basically have the same turbo set-up. So I hope I get the same results as he did.

Very cool. I know the VE intake manifold and head flow a lot more air than the DE design. The high lobe cams will definitely help to get the most out of your turbo at high RPMs.

I'm running an NA VE right now and plan on going VE-t in next year or so.

I got a G-spec water pump pulley that's on my slowport right now that I'm gonna be using and I'm gonna sell the UR crank pulley once the motor's out and get a G-spec crank pulley for the ve, unless people have used the de UR crank pulley with no issues on the ve.

Awesome man. What do you have for engine/fuel management?

Right now, I'm using an innovative motorsports wideband controller, the narrow band output I soldered into the ECU narrow band in. This is good enough for a pretty accurate AFR (averages 14.2 ish) If I had a laptop with a SCSI input I'd set it a little richer (you can define what the narrow band output reads).

In a couple weeks I'm getting my tax return, then I'ma go with a Nistune daughter board and software.
