    Cipped key help

long story short i am stranded hours from home with no key to my G. lost the key on a ski slope somewhere, and it was the only one i had.

i need to know if ONLY an infiniti dealer can get me a new key or can a Nissan dealer maybe help?

the closest Inifinit dealer is 50 miles away in the wrong direction, and it is closed on sundays. there is a Nissan down the road.

is it possible to bypass the security on a 00+ G20? after this incident i am ready to retrofit the P11 with a p10 harness, ECU, and ignition just so i dont have to deal with this shit.

A Nissan dealer probably should be able to help. I can't imagine that the key is any different from a Nissan key.

Well the Closest infiniti Dealer is in Buffalo 57 miles north of where the car is and i live to the south. the closest Nissan Dealer is 37 miles to the southeast, almost in the right direction.

to reflash the car has to be at the dealer doesnt it? no way they could come to the car? even if i can afford for them to do it...

what are the odds that this auction on ebay isnt a rip-off?

    Ebay chipped Key

what info would the locksmith need to cut and reprogram the key? is a vin enough? i cant provide anything more than that. would a locksmith need access to the car to do the work or could i have a locksmith in my homewown do the work and then i could go pick up my car.

i cant afford the 50 mile towing to a dealer or the outrageous price for a new key and i need to work monday 150 miles from where the car is stuck. so i dont know how i would be able to do this if i need to get a locksmith to the car or the car to a dealer.

I think your SOL man, for a lock smith to make a new key they need one to read the signal off of the 'old' one. I carry a flat key in my wallet for things like this. 99 FTW.

Well theres this company that goes to your car and makes the key for you. I dont know if they have it in your areas but here in Mass they do. Google it. They are very pricey though.

I'm not sure if Nissan/Infiniti keys work this way, but some manufacturers have a database of key codes that allows them to look up the correct sequence for a given car and cut a new key in instances of a lost key.

I think you need a locksmith. Do you have AAA? AFAIK, they can make chipped keys but they need to get the VIN and be able to get in touch with Infiniti in order to get the key code.

edited to add: If you don't have AAA, call and sign up for it then at the end of the call request a locksmith, they should have no problem doing so.

A dealer will be able to match / program a blank key with transponder to the modules in the car. What a locksmith will do is change out the modules to match a blank key.

Cutting the key from the VIN can be done at a dealer. A locksmith with make a key work with the tumblers in the locks (this key might be slightly different than stock but will work).

I would follow Merlin's suggestion about AAA. Get the highest level of membership (Premier) for about $102 that includes one 200 mile tow per year in addition to more short tows / other services. Tow the car to your home, go to work on public transportation, and deal with no key at a slower pace.

The part number for a 2000-2002 G20 with transponder master key blank is H0564-2W610.

You can buy a blank key from Infiniti of Scotsdale (IOS) for $80.44 but they will not cut it.

If for some reason you really want to use eBay, I would buy from Infiniti of Peoria (infinitipartsonline) http://stores.ebay.com/infinitipartsonline . They have the key for $85.80 but they will not cut it.

I would recommend Sewell Infiniti of Houston as they have prices almost as good as IOS at $89.45 but will cut the key with faxed or emailed proof of ownership. They really have great customer service. You will still have to go to a deal for programing.

    WELL I LUCKED OUT!

I lost my key while snowboarding at Holiday Valley, Ellicottville, New York. i called them today and another skiier found my keys on the slopes today and turned them in.

now i just need to hitch a ride back to new york this week and pick up the G. i offered a friend a lift ticket for his troubles. ill get to board again so its win win.

i still gotta get another key just in case. so i might be calling some dealers. i was also wondering if it would work to get a flat key cut, and just tape the transponder chip inside the steering column. that way even if i lost the key it would only be a $5 fix instead of 200.

thanks for the help everyone. i just realized i mis-spelled chipped in the title...

Glad you got it figure out, that's great news! You could definitely just tape a chipped key somewhere or possibly even remove the tiny chip and just put that in the console.

Non chipped keys are <$5 all day long...

Or now that you have the original transponder key get it duplicated at a locksmith that has an ILCO RW2 Cloning Machine or similar.
