good question....

Lets see....what does a bad motor mount look like????

Well, it probably has not shaved in awhile, has dirty clothes, and will stare at you each time you want by it and say, "What the Fock you lookin at!", not to mention the numerous prior "run-ins" with law enforcement and JV halls....It is my advice that you stay clear of the above, and get yourself some nice red Place Racing motor mounts, they are sweet and cluddley, and will always be there for you, even when your engine is not.

Precisely. You'll feel a helluvalot more vibration when you're idling. As for visual signs, as mentioned above, it has a crack in it and when you start the engine, it'll shake real bad.

Talking he he

It'll shake... it'll shake when you shift_ (Nissan style), it'll shake when you idle, it'll shake when you go 'zoom-zoom-zoom'... (oops that's Mazda)...
You can see the cracks too in the rubber part... If you have bad ones... trust me, you wanna change them... Your car will feel like a brand new one

I'm getting a little of that jumping back in the shifter when i put it in gear or change gears or whatever but there isnt that much vibration. I guess they have a little longer left in them still. Is the shifter jumping around anything to worry about?

A guy i met with a det swapped into his sentra asked if i had movement in my stick when i put it into gear (like lateral movement while it's in gear), is that what you mean or do you mean the engine moves while in gear? he also said there was a recall on the sr20 shifter bearings or something like that, is this true?

ive always wondered too about that, mostly when im in 3rd and 4th gear when i touch the gas the stick will move back and forth an inch or 2. Is that just the mounts?

The movement of the stick when you touch the gas is due to the fact that the shift linkage clamps on the transmission for stability while another arm's duty is to change gears.

Stock motor mounts allow little engine movement in the engine bay to increase comforts and reduce vibration. If you've every look at the stock dog bone on your sr20de, you'll see it's webbed design and creates a lot of engine movement because of this design.

On my NX2000, I have polyurethane motor mounts inserts and there's absolutely no movement don't there, you can't even see it move and you don't feel it moving with the stick.

Answer: polyurethane!

Mine are inserts from Energy Suspension and you can get them online at courtesy Nissan (the ones for the B13 SE-R) for 70$.

I better like to put inserts than paying 250$ for the same thing from JWT!

Mine moves much less than an inch or 2 but its noticeable. Is that whole shift linkage thing going to cause any problems? I want to prevent 5th gear popout from developing if at all possible. I dont know if its related or not...

No it's not related. The engine movement in this engine bay is more critical for halfshafts because it prevents wheel hoping and tranny case cracking.

I can't help myself - I have to share with you all b/c this just happened to my car...

One of the motor mounts was about to go, and I knew this because my car turned into to World's Largest Moving Vibrator. It would shake, rattle, and roll all at the same time, and after a trip out of state it obviously got worse. So my sister, going to school to become an automotive engineer, replaces the motor mount that went bad for me. When she showed me the old one, I said (no kidding!), "That thing looks like an inverted nipple! No wonder it felt so bad!"

I hope you have fun when you replace yours!

Hockey pucks son. I've had mine in there for two and a half years and stll going strong. The P11 is even easier because the front and rear mounts are the same.
