Help -- stereo display is out

My 1994G20 still has the original factory stereo and although it works just fine, the display (i.e. face place) is out so it won't display anything (e.g. tracks, radio station, nothing).

Any idea what could be wrong and how to fix?

I'm going on a road trip and would like to take care of this.

It probably just needs to be replaced.

how do I figure out which/where connection is loose?

I should mention that before the display went out completely, it used to show intermittently and at times when I had to "knock" on it. But now its gone out completely.

I would hate to replace the entire unit since it is playing jst fine.

replace for better sound anyway imo. mine was out when i got the car, still played but couldn't see anything.

also, if u replace with aftermarket, do the amp bypass to avoid double amplification.

Agreed that replacement is a good option. However, I'd like to just make sure there is no loose connection or an easy DIY fix. How did I check this? Would a store look into this for me? I guess I would need a couple of "clips" to pull out the faceplate?

i don't know if its the same on the p10 but on the p11 u can easily remove the screws under and around the dashboard trim. http://www.g20.net/forum/showthread....o+remove+radio

Yeah, my stereo display is gona also. The thing is so messed up that when you turn up the volume, it actually goes down. LOL! I was doing some shopping the other day and new in dash units are as cheap as they have been in years. CD player with USB input is around $100. I would just change it out for a new one. How are the speakers?
