Thumbs up The official 2010 G20.net F1 thread

Might as well get things started right..

Any news that you hear regarding the 2010 F1 season (teams, driver changes, etc, etc).. have at it!

I'll start it off.... so cosworth is coming back huh?

From what I remember, they didn't do so hot the last time they tried to get back into F1... let's see how they do this year.

Here's to hoping Raikkonen doesn't get a spot on any team.

Today's announcements:

Bridgestone will leave F1 at the end of the 2010 season. Wonder who the new supplier will be?

Rubens will drive a Cosworth powered Williams this year. Wonder who will get the seat at Brawn?

Rosberg is def going somewhere but it has not been announced where just yet. My guess is McLaren or Brawn.

There was a segment about them during the Abu Dhabi broadcast. Their car is in development and things are moving along pretty well.

Well, if Toyota is out.. then there is an open spot for BMW to continue..

As for Scott Speed.. he has actually done pretty good racing stock cars.

I think with the right team/car he could do pretty good.

Regarding USF1 drviers, I'm hoping A. J. Allmendinger will get a seat. Although hes driving NASCAR now, he was doing very well in Champ Car before the whole merge happened. A while back in an interview with USF1, they mentioned his name as a great American driver. He was second behind Bourdais in the championship before AJ left for NASCAR.

Although Bourdais didn't have a good run in F1 he may also still end up with a drive in F1 in 2010. Lots of seats have yet to be announced or decided.

Yeah, Bourdais is a really good driver, things just didn't seem to work out for him in F1. I do hope to dee him back. AJ is also a good driver.. I can't wait to see who gets signed.

With testing back, hopefully we will be able to see more skilled drivers right off the start. Rather than having new guys who are learning how to use the new car for a quarter of the season.

I'm most excited to see if Kobayashi gets a drive. It was pretty much a given that he would get a ride with Toyota next year, but with the team leaving F1, I hope someone picks him up. Hes an amazing driver, aggressive but smart. He was able to race with some of the best drivers in F1 in Brazil and Abu Dhabi and he was in a Toyota! Two races, Two great drives.

Also I'd like to see Sutil mature as a driver. He has the speed to qualify well and get points in the Force India. He just seems to get in dumb situations and get tangled up and ruin his day. A little rain and he is one of the best drviers out there. Think Monaco 2008 running third until Raikkonen ran into the back of him. Who knows he may even end up getting the drive at McLaren. He was talking with them a while back. If not I'm sure he can still perform well for Force India.

I would have to agree on both points. Kobayashi did VERY well in both of the F1 races he drove in, and he wasn't even a stand out driver in GP2. Sutil also is a great driver ans force india is brining their car along.. Next year should be a good one for F1.. Also I hadn't hear testing was back, but I'm VERY happy to hear it. They should limit it some, so the big teams with all the $ don't get 4X the amount of testing, but testing IS needed. I'm already looking forward to next year!

Yah I hadn't heard it either until I read this article on the F1 website. Read the last paragraph.

Quote:
Alonso makes first Ferrari factory visit
The 2009 season may have only just finished, but Fernando Alonso is already fully focused on 2010 and last week he took time out of his winter break to visit Ferrari - his new team for next year. Although still contracted to 2009 employers Renault, Alonso was permitted to journey to Maranello on Friday to meet with key Ferrari team members and tour the Italian squad's factory.

The Spaniard was initially greeted by team principal Stefano Domenicali, before he chatted to several engineers. He then visited the team’s wind tunnel to see a model of their 2010 car, before working on his seating position in the cockpit. Finally he met with Ferrari chairman Luca di Montezemolo, who officially welcomed the two-time world champion to the team.

Although Alonso will not be able to test Ferrari’s new Formula One car on track until February next year after the FIA’s test ban is lifted, the 28 year-old ended his day sampling Ferrari’s Fiorano test track in 458 Italia road car.
