Ok, I snapped my exhaust hanger trying to remove the bolts from my cat. Since I refuse to pay the price at the dealer, I was wondering if I could use the hanger from any other cars. I know SR20's will work but what about SR18 or GA16 or anything else for that matter?
You mean the rubber thing with two holes in it? Just take the busted part into Checker or AutoZone and theyll have some domestic equivalent that should work fine.
Just wondering if you ever found another source for these.
I've had several that are rusted off, nothing like it at autoparts stores, everything G20, doesn't show in Bosal or in the FSM. Its actually two pieces that attach to the flange bolts on either side of the aft cat flange, has the pin for the rubber hanger that then attaches to a pin on the body. I suppose I could try and fabricate one, but I'd rather buy one if I can. I'm a long way from an Infiniti dealer, but there is a Nissan dealer next town.
What i did was go to Nissan and told them i had a 94 SE-R and asked for the catalytic convertor mounting bracket. It was around $20. If you want a used one i might have it off this weekend.
Nissan dealer got the part overnite, looks right, haven't put it on yet. It looks significantly more substantial than the old one that rusted off.
Nissan Part # 20722-50Y00 "Bracket-Exhaust" $17.01 (+tax)
I don't know how you could replace a worn out system, anyplace with ice/snow/salt, without having to replace this item. I'd encourage anyone who has had a system installed recently to check if the bracket is solid. If it is not supported at the cat, you're gonna put a lot of stress on your flex pipe, which is a pricey item.
Went looking for the part #, searched for my old post. Doing it again on another car.
Realized I never updated this- the Nissan part for the bracket is the right one, OEM match.
One I'm doing now is a cobbled up weld job. It's amazing to see how people have dealt with the exhaust sys replacing on this car over the years... I've seen lots of "creative" work down there on different G's I've worked on.
I'll stick to Bosal, find the best price, I know it will fit. The price for the header pipe is, however, close to the price foe SSAutochrome headers on ebay...
Also have a rattle, may take the heat shields off. Couldn't find anything in posts that says it's a terrible thing to do. BTW, bought one of those 4" Makita grinders at HD with a bunch of cut-off wheels, very reasonable, and makes the R/R on the exhaust sys a pc of cake. Of course, after that, I bought a nice compressor, and the air cutoff would have been cheaper... Someday I'll get a torch (local garage just blew up after someone got to close to the fuel tank with a torch).
The bracket has two bolt holes that match up with the flange on the stock cat (flex pipe side, if I remember right). So, if the flange bolt pattern is the same on the 3" setup, which it probably isn't, it might fit. Best to get one and try it.
I just checked- for a P-11 Exhaust Bracket, you need part #20722-3E600. I found out this is NOT available thru Nissan dealers, so it has to come from an Infiniti dealer like everythingg20.com.
