Install Pics of my stereo (56k’ers, even DSL is scared)

It’s been a while since I completed the install. I’ve been meaning to post pictures but I’ve been swamped both at work and at home! Thought I would share the pictures of the install and the final product.

Of course, this is the stock system with my external Sirius player in the cup holder..

Getting everything ready for the storm…

It starts… Couldn’t think of a better place to start…

Right about this time, I started to get a little scared..

This is an interesting pic (just joking)…

Man, this was a bich.. seriously… man… seriously…

Still in good shape… kinda a victory pic… got it all out at least…

I ruined my JL tweets, don’t ask.. but went with these instead.. Infinity Refrences…

All the mounts were way too big to mount in there, but I didn’t want them floppy, I’m not sure what others have done but, this was my best solution I could come up with… I took my time, it’s all taped really well, but, it’s still a little janky…

These are the rears I got, JL TR650-CXs…

Mounted:

The fronts, they were component JL TR650-CSi’s but, as said above, I ruined the tweets, so it’s a Component JL/Infinity mix… sounds sweet though…

Trunk wires for my sub/amp, but I don’t have pics of the sub/amp… but I put in a 10” Kenwood set-up thing… it sounds pretty good, I was not looking to break windows so it works perfect for what I was looking for [ Kenwood factory pic: LINK]

Final pics, it’s installed! Alpine CDA-9853 …. Din adapter is Scorsche purchased at Wally-Mart:

Another angle…

And another..

Little light on the subject..

It’s got a cool tilt function so when you’re in the car and the glare makes it hard to see the screen, you can give it a “gangsta” tilt…

And the final pic, showing the iPod hooked up. I didn’t go with the “Alpine iPod Adapeter”, I just went Mini-Jack to RCA with the Ai-net hook up from Alpine, that goes into my Sirius antenna box.. kinda cool cause I can hook up any type of MP3 to it, or use my vid-pod and still get video in the car for passengers to check out..

That’s it! Sorry for all the pics but thought I’d share, it’s always interesting to see other peoples installs, I think…? I still haven’t figured everything out on this deck. I figured out the levels and all… I found how to set my “pre-set” radio stations for the Sirius, but can’t seem to do it for the FM/AM yet, I don’t know why but it’s not giving me the option for the pre-sets on the FM side of things… if anyone knows why, feel free to fill me in! LOL!

Good job, Nick. Everything looks great.

I totally hear you about wiring in the front speakers... major PITA.

Thanks brotha! Yeah man, those fronts, seriously took me almost 2 hours each wire. I could NOT get the wire through man, I was so close to giving up on the first (passenger) side... but then finally got it through... so after that, I couldn't give up because I knew it was possible.. I couldn't believe how rough it was though...

That is very nice and clean...

BTW is that a factory boot on your shifter or aftermarket? I like it, and would like to get a new one.

I found it easiest to pop the grommets off the door and car frame, remove the tape tying the ends on, then squeeze the entire rubber loom thing together so there was only a couple of inches to push the wire through. That made it a lot easier than trying to snake it through while it was all bent.

Exactly what I have man.

Alpine tilt ROCKS. I also use the AI-Net to RCA cable also for my Creative Zen Touch 20GB I use for the car, but I haven't setup a good location to mount the player just yet. And i like this to because I can connect another Y adapter for additional RCA cables, so I can hook as many electronics up as I want.

Very clean setup! I need to tackle rewiring my speakers also and wire them into a seperate amp.

Cool Jon! I wish you could tell me what's up with my FM/AM pre-sets not showing up... I can't access the "pre-sets" to set the FM stations to the pre-sets. I was able to do this in the SIRIUS side, and have my stations in the presets 1-6, but on the FM, when I go to touch "Function" to get to the 1-6's to pre-set, it takes me to a menu first, that asks for CD TUNER SAT AUX. I choose "FM" but then it takes me back to showing the radio station. I don't know what I'm doing wrong, I can't get it to show me the pre-set 1-6's so I can set my stations on the FM side... I'm sure it's operator error though...

I thought that you just turn to FM, manually change to your station, press and hold the station key/slider position to bind it to the FM Tuner 1-6, and then do the same for the Sirius and bind your 1-6 there. This works on my deck, and I don't have the slider. You just have to go into the FM section, set them first, then go to the SAT section and bind them in that section. The order doesnt matter, but the proccess should be the same.

If theres a built in menu for it I've never gotten it to work.

Hmm... shoot, wish you could show me in person. I've tried everything I can think of to try. Like I said, I can get my Sirius pre-set in the 1-6. But when I hit the "source" button over to FM, it doesn't even give me the option to pre-set...

LOL! Believe me Jon, when it was all sitting in boxes in my computer room, I was anxious as all get out. I was way nervous.. Just dropped serious cash on it all and had it all in boxes... LOL! Oh man, don't even ask about the time it took. That's embarassing! I thought "Oh, 8, 9 hours, no sweat, I'll knock this out in a Saturday.." Started Saturday morning... bout 11pm Saturday night I was falling asleep trying to wire shit... LOL! Woke up Sunday.. "Cool, should have this done by noon!" 4pm rolls around... started looking like I was gonna have to call in sick to work Monday! But, lucky for me, I got it done by bout 6pm Sunday night... All n' all, honest estimate, I would say 16 hours. LOL! I know people here could probably do it in about 5 hours, but for me, it was way more difficult then I anticipated. BUT! In my defence, when I hooked up the deck, that very first turn on, perfect.

Honestly, shouldn't be a problem at all... if you already have the aftermarket in, it should be a matter of pulling the trim off, undo about 4 (maybe 5) screws, pull the deck, plug them in, and run them out of the back of the console (back by the gas pedal) and then running them under the carpet to the trunk... breezy...

Haha, wiring through the doors is a PITA. I can't even begin to explain the number of odd kitchen/household tools we came up with to try to get through the grommets on my ride.

Everything looks really good!

That is the easiest way to do it by far. I go one step further and run string through it first and then pull. It might add like 5 minutes to the job, but I can run whatever size wire I want through there... I know that sounds anal, but that is how I do thing in car installs.

I also find that a wire coat hanger works great if you have one laying around. To me it is worth it to get the wire in.

That's what I used, a coat hanger...

So I figured out what's up with my FM/AM pre-sets not showing up... I couldn't access the "pre-sets" to set the FM stations to the pre-sets. I was able to do this in the SIRIUS side, and have my stations in the presets 1-6, but on the FM, when I went to touch the "Func" key (function) to get to the 1-6's to pre-set like the manual says, it would take me to a menu first, that asks for CD TUNER SAT AUX. I would choose "Tuner" on the Glide Touch bar, but then it would take me back to showing the radio station, not the 1-6 preset numbers. Well I found out what I was doing wrong. I am not suppose to choose TUNER, I am suppose to hit "Func" again. But the BS is the manual doesn't say to hit Func twice!! It makes no mention of the CD TUNER SAT AUX menu at all?? So, I dunno, I'm gonna have to chalk this one up to an error in the "write-up" within the manual. LOL! But seriously, check out the manual, it doesn't say anything about hitting Func once, then again to show the 1-6. It acts like you hit Func once, and the 1-6 presets show up which is NOT the case! LOL! Well, hopefully this helps someone else out there in the world if they ever have the same problem… CDA-9853 manual (LINK)

Looks great Nick - the Din cubby is great to have too I imagine. Great to be able to clean up the clutter of having that add-on unit.
