What filter are u using?
99g20 will only run right with air filter out. No codes really need help!!
Ok so i have a 99 g20 with 160k on it. Recently it started acting up and gave symptoms which lead me to believe it was a trans issue. Car would not gain speed but rpms would continue to climb and hold gear till redline before it would shift.. The car was not throwing any codes then either and I know the trans had never been serviced so I figured it's time for a new one. Replace the trans and t/c drove it and same thing.
For some reason I had an issue with truck a long time ago that had a similar issue due to a clogged air filter. The filter in my g20 is relatively new but I decided to replace it anyone, still the same. Just for the heck of it I decided to pull the filter out and drive it, drives completely fine. I cleaned the maf and re-installed the air filter, problem came back. The car is not throwing any codes so I don't believe to be a maf but at this point with out a any sign of where to look I am completely lost.
So in short, car drives completely fine with air filter removed. Once filter is back in no. Please some one help me, I guess I can just run it with out a filter for now but I don't know how long it will hold up like that.

maybe if you run it without the filter rubberband a pantyhose on there to keep leaves and big stuff out. Sounds like you're on the right track with new maf.
