Brake lights not working

so my brake lights stopped working awhile ago and i didnt think much of it. i figuerd it would be something simple since i had to wire in my euro tails and it was a little rigy because i had to figure out which wires to use.

after they stopped working i went back there to inspect what was going on and didnt really see anything that was concerning.

so i decided to trouble shoot a little and found that the fuse for "stop lamp" was blown. replaced the fuse hoping thats all it was

since that didnt work i moved back to the trunk to start there because thats the only place where ive messed with the wiring. first i unplugged the trunk harness the controls the inner lights and license plate light, popped in a fuse to see if i can locate it. fuse was donzo. moved on to the tali light harness which contorls all the brake lights located where the jack is on the pass side in the trunk. still popped a fuse. tried unplugging the brake light swtich and the fuse didnt actually blow. replaced it with several new / used switches and the fuse still blows.

so there has to be some short somewhere in the circuit.

so my question is has anyone ran into this before?? is there something im missing? i know p11s have truck wire issues but i already checked that area and its fine. i just wanna know some tips or if there is something else i should check before i rip up all the carpet and inspect all the wires leading to the trunk

thanks fellas

just to add to this the "running lights" turn on so they are getting power. the turning signal and the reverse lights work too.
Good luck...I just had a similar problem - it was a short in the brake light switch wiring. Took several hours to repair.
Watching this thread, had the same problem after my swap and haven't fixed it yet.

thats interesting. where exactly did it short in the wiring

I suspect the original owner closed the trunk on the wire harness that goes along the side of the lid. It's very common for these wires to get pinched in that location (search for it, I think there's at least 3 or 4 different threads about it). Regardless of what happened, the original owner replaced the trunk wiring and all the wiring going to the ABS computer and the brake pedal switch wiring - although it looks like they got lazy at the end and the new wires to the brake pedal switch came loose - causing a short.

I had to rip apart about 30 - 40% of the dash and replace a lot of the wiring up front but thankfully the ABS computer and the wiring in the back was fine. It was a stupid and preventable problem - both on Nissan's end (secure/protect that harness better!) and on the original owner's part (if you're going to spend 20 hours repairing something, you should probably do it right the first time).
Make sure the wires aren't pinched/broken like benja said. This happened to me and I had to solder them back together.
what did you swap?
Oops, didn't see your comment. GTi-R engine swap.
