Hello All,

I am new to this site..

I bought an Infinit G20 (2002) used one from a dealer. A day went by and now the car shows a Check Engine Light on, and my mechanic tells me that the error code is P0040A EGR problem.

The dealer is ready to fix the problem, but I am not sure if the error code means anything serious.

Any thoughts and suggestions are h9ighly appreciated.

Thanks,
V

EGR valve is part of the emissions system of the car, a faulty EGR can lead to failing emissions testing as well as "surging" of the engine. It is not the end of the world.

I am sure that the dealer is ready to charge an arm and a leg to repair it. My advice would be that:

a) you can clear the code and see if it returns. Someone with an OBD II reader or autozone can clear it for you, for free
b) your EGR can probably be cleaned instead of replaced. If you search around there are threads on how to clean an EGR valve.
c) If you are going to get it repaired/replaced don't be afraid to take it to your trusted mechanic, an EGR is nothing to special...unless of course you plan to do the work yourself

hope this helps a little bit, oh, and welcome...
