At SEMA this year, there are several rides with electric motors.

One area of interest are companies that are developing electric motors that would bolt in place where the existing motor sits. There are LS and SBC versions being worked on, and ones that work with manual transmissions. There is a bunch of work that still needs to be done once that motor is in, but it's great that a an electric motor can be sized to fit in the same spot.

More info here:

And a '62 Chevy pickup:

And one being developed in a FJ40 (same company as the first link):

Our main vehicle has been electric for the past year and half, I know that I'd be hella interested in if someone created something similar that would bolt in to where the SR20 sits - especially if it could mate with the existing manual trans. One downside is you'd probably sacrifice all of your trunk space for batteries.

In the foyer outside the upper south hall are a few electric conversions, including a RWB 911 with tesla motors in it that looks pretty sweet and is really compact.

I've toyed with the idea of swapping in leaf junk but I don't have time or space to start another project.

I don't see the logic behind using a SR gearbox. I feel it is a lot of extra junk you don't need.

I'd be fine with dropping the manual as well, just thought it was cool that that some of these swaps can work with one. In the end it would probably work best with a trans made for it, and those will mostly be auto.
