I always had the impression that someone had to be sitting in it. It's funny you bring this up because my gf was coming home in her Kompressor last night to pick me up and go to the store, and she had the passenger seat heater on the whole way so it wouldn't be cold when she switched seats, but it WAS still cold. Moral of the story: seems to be common.
? For Those Who Have P11 Heated Seats
I was wondering if those with Heated Seats in your P11's could help me answer. If you turn on the heated seat for the Passenger or Drivers side does it heat up without anyone in it or does it have a weight sensor to trigger the heating element to turn on? In my old QX56 I believe it had a sensor to actually turn on as they were never hot even on High unless the seat sensed that it had someone or something on it!!

Not all nissans do. I was in a 13 Altima the other week that had heated seats and they would heat with no one in it. Same goes for my mom's 03 Odyssey. has heated seats in the front but doesnt require someone to be in it to be heating up.
there's no sensors on these. Its insta bunwarmers via switch.
I can confirm that mine will get hot regardless of if someone is in the seat or not. It's how I keep my pizza hot on the way home.
I agree - there's no weight sensor. The manual specifically warns about having it turned on without someone sitting there...I believe it can damage the seat, but I'm not sure.

No weight sensor on these seats, when you switch them on, they're on.
