Hey everyone! We just made it into Alaska today and are staying at this B&B in Fairbanks called 7 Gables Inn. Bonus is free fast internet service so I can do some stuff for a bit before I fall asleep. So we have seen ZERO other Infiniti cars since Edmonton... oh well... BUT here is the basic rundown of what has happened so far with our 3500 miles to-date!

Day 1 was Chicago to Winnipeg
Day 2 was Winnipeg to Edmonton
Day 3 was shopping at West Edmonton Mall (the largest there is)
Day 4 was Edmonton to Fort Nelson
Day 5 was Fort Nelson to Whitehorse (Yukon Territory)
Day 6 was Whitehorse to Fairbanks (TODAY)

The sun doesn't set until after midnight here and it never gets completely
dark before sunrise at around 3am. It is really strange to see the Tonight
Show with lots of sunshine outside.

The weather has been warm... almost too warm to believe here in Alaska where
everyone is outside in shorts and convertibles are everywhere! (I didn't
think Alaska folks owned convertibles but I was wrong!)

Our trip started out easy enough doing 800 miles a day but after Dawson Creek
it was another story with all the Campers on the road with us. Fortunately,
we seemed to be able to pass most of the campers so much so that we were ahead
of them all and now we only pass a few along the way. The road was basically
100% paved until Ft. Nelson and then there were suddenly huge areas of gravel
or dirt (YIKES)! The poor car is absolutely filthy but I am happy to report
no incidents at all!

Tomorrow we are planning to pan for gold just north of Fairbanks, see the
musuem at the University of Alaska at Fairbanks AND take a riverboat cruise if
the weather is agreeable.

We drove in and out of rain the past few days but it was actually nice to get
a break from the bright sunshine.

Anyway... I'm not sure when we'll get 'net access again so I'm signing off for
now.

BTW: GAS fill up today in Alaska was only $1.49 a gallon for regular.. When we left Chicago last week, it was $1.65 a gallon! ...and here we thought gas would cost more here!

yeah..

I figured that the no-answer meant you were already gone..

...did you leave before the fire? It smelled pretty bad in Fairbanks from that nasty fire... of course it was in Zion and Colorado too... smelled like a campfire for about a week of our trip.. go figure..

BTW: Some HIGHLY recommended advise for your trip back to Florida and/or anyone taking a trip to/From Alaska in the near future!

Yukon Territory is doing some major roadwork which translates to 20+ miles of dirt and gravel roads in 2 spots...

Bottom line: Invest in some of those plastic headlight covers! You'll be glad you did!

We never used the spare tire BUT we had 4 brand new tires on the car before leaving for the trip so that probably helped!

NO cracks on the windshield BUT I pulled way over to the side of the road when a semi was coming in the other direction... Also, the way back had much more camper/RV traffic althought he windshield took a few hits, we got really lucky with no damage... sounded terrible though!!!

Other advise is to bring an extra oil if you are using synthetic... I needed to add a quart in St. George.... and then another later on after getting back from Henderson, Neveda.... that over 100 heat used up oil 'cause I didn't need to add anything the first 7K miles with the cooler weather!
