:p Hey all, the G-ride is about to hit 60k and its ready for a tune up. I'm wondering if anyone has any extra tune up tips that you have done to your ride to keep it going on strong.

I've planned on doing some of the easy stuff at home, what do you recommend that I get taken care of at the shop?

Also, any tips on parts (type spark plugs, wires, etc) would be helpful too.

Thanks ;)

NGK Platinum

As far as spark plugs go, only use NGK platinums. I believe the one you need for a '99 is the PFR5G-11. NGK lists the PFR5B-11 for earlier model years, but I'm not sure what the difference is. Anyone know? The point is, your engine will hate you if you don't use NGK platinum plugs!

I thought all SR20's oem platinum plugs were the PFR6B-11. Nissan released a TSB many years ago that stated the PFR5B-11 was to be replaced with the '6' heat range instead due to driveability problems or something like that.

Also, NGK supposedly changed the model number from PFR6B-11 to PFR6G-11, and I have been told they are the same exact plug. Anyone else no any difference?

Regular tune-up would be air filter or clean cone filter, plugs, wire, cap & rotor, clean throttle body then re-check base idle and timing, check your belts, anti-freeze, brake fluid, power steering fluid. And that's about it.

Use OEM Nissan/Infiniti wires, cap & rotor, and oil filter as well. Your car will love you for it.

You might want to add transmission fluid to that list of things to replace. It depends on its condition, so make sure is clear red. If it's turning brown or getting cloudy you may want to consider changing it while you're doing the rest of that stuff. It's pretty easy; kinda like changing oil.

Yes, those have been affectionately called "Motor Killers"... use all stock ignition components. Best prices I have seen are are Infinitipartsusa and Infinitiparts.net.

Don't forget the fuel filter!

Standard sparkplug replacment for Platinums: 105,000 miles

All of these plugs are NGK this is what Nissan used as their OEM sparkplugs.

NGK part numbers with the -11, mean they are pregapped to 1.1mm from the factory. I'd double check it before putting them in.

hey guys...

I'm willing to create a document only for "General Tune-UP MAINTENANCE" say an ALL-IN-ONE .pdf document that will cover both P10 & P11 series (US version)

I will post them here so everyone can download...

This will be our P10-P11 TUNE-UP BIBLE.

All recommendations like BEST OIL FOR SR20DE, Torque specs ( wheels lug nuts, sparkplugs etc. ), Nissan OEM preventive maintenance part numbers and third party part numbers., when to rotate wheels, cabin filters.....wiper fluids...

What I am saying is it's a General TUNE-UP BIBLE... ( it's NOT a document on how to FIX broken stuff )

Ofcourse I still need your assistance proof-reading the document then if everything is accurate then we will post it here. The document will be based on the FSM and inputs from all of you.

so that simple questions like "what's the best oil for my G?" or what's the best 3rd party Sparkplug wires? questions like that we can always refer them to our TUNE-UP BIBLE.

What do you guys think?

Best oil...well oil is one of those things that people are going to continuously argue over. MY opinion, 5w-30 doesn't matter what brand as long as you change it.

Spark plug wires...buy OEM. not OEM style, or OEM equivalent from the parts store..actual OEM parts from the infinifi or nissan dealer. They will probably be made by sumitomo or yazaki but they will come in a Nissan package so you know it is good.

Ok Bros...

Together with the FSM infos what infos you guys want to include?

Say alternative 3rd party parts?

Cheaper but better than NISSAN OEMs maybe?

Parts to avoid? ( just like the case on BOSCH PLUGS almost everyone here hate it )

Some good Ideas that the FSM didnt mention?

Proven recommendations like NGKs are the best plugs for SR20DEs?

or anything.....
