Just curious. So say the car is idling at 850 rpm in park. Should the idle drop somewhat when I put it into drive?

Just wanted to know if this was normal.

Thanks

Makes sense for the idle to drop. You're engaging your gears in your transmission, which puts more load on your engine, and thus dropping the rpms.

So, would it be safe to say that the base idle in drive is above 750 RPM if in park it is the recommended 850? Should I adjust the base idle to compensate for this drop so that it will idle at 850 in drive?

No, like I said before, it's normal for the idle to drop when putting it into gear. Do not mess around with your idle.
