Just bought another '99 AR2 manual, but you have to do something strange to start it.

You have to push the cruise control button on as you turn the key and depress the clutch pedal to start the g20. After it's running, and strong it is, I can turn off the cruise and it stays running.

Anyone heard of this? Sounds like someone wired it to prevent theft.

Does seem likes its wired to prevent theft... I would check under the drivers dash for any aftermarket wiring.

Yea, I'll go through it soon. Guess the clutch switch could be wired inline with the cruise so an open cruise switch would keep the clutch switch circuit open regardless of the clutch switch. Wondered if the dealer could make a change in the ECU to do this, looks like the previous owner had everything taken care of by an Infiniti dealer. It's so smooth and strong, drives like a dream. Much better than the last hack job I bought.
If intentional, this is such a good idea.

Was the car originally a manual or an auto conversion?

Has nothing to do with the ECM. It's probably just a standard 30 amp relay which is triggered off the cruise switch
what did the previous owner say? he/she must have told you considering he/she showed you what to do...
push button start yo!
