My car uses alot of oil, how do i troubleshoot?

My European Nissan Primera 1997 GT 150bhp have been using alot of oil.
i used to be a heavy driver but it doesnt feel as its time yet for my car to start suffereing :depressed

Ive used it for a few years, and ive managed to get 345'000 KM on the clock.
Its sad to think that if it is my piston rings or my valve rings that are worn, the cost in norway to repair it gonna
cost me so much that i just could get another car.
this is the funniest and best car ive ever had!

I was really hoping it would be the PCV Valve, so i had to figure out which one of the tubings was the valve.
I think it was the one at the uppder side of my engine. I found a tube ther going straight to my intake.
so i took it out with just my hands and started the engine. I could hear a loud sucking sound and the engine struggled, then stopped.
Ive heard this is a indication that the valve works right? i also saw a tiny bit of oil around inside the valve.

So if i can say that my valve is okay, what else could it be? is it really the end of my lovley cars health?
Its the ending i never wanted to come.
However i do know it will last for long, but i just dont like the fact that my engine burns 1-2 liters of oil each month depending on how much i drive.

Do i feel any performance drop when the piston or valve rings are worn?

My car feels pretty alright, its not very quick from 1000-4800 rpm, but feels pretty good from 4800-5800 rpm.
Also from 5800 - 7000 rpm my car runs either lean or rich? i dont know, but it feels like there is some slight resistance in the engine, like its slightly braking or something.
I dont know how to troubleshoot the slight performance drop i get in the high end rpms and the high use of oil.

i can say for sure that i do not have any oil leaks.
Also i belive my maf is in good shape, i dont know with my oxygen sensor tho, havent tried to change it yet.
all i know was that i was riding with exhaust leaks at the flexible for quite long.

Could be that your oil control rings are dirty and gummed up which can allow oil past the piston. A 24 hour piston soak or engine cleaning product could help free the oil control rings. If your PCV valve and Oxygen sensor have never been replaced you might wanna just replace them, if your o2 sensor is bad it can make your car run very rich which would dilute your crankcase oil with fuel causing oil to get burned easily.
Is that an RR engine?

Really? thanks for the tip man.
so the Lambda/Oxygen sensor will cause the car to burn more oil?
Its never been changed, and i was running with some damage at my exhaust system for pretty long if that matters.
Im thinking about trying to get a cheap one, i guess it does the job.
Also, i did the pvc valve test wrong, i left the valve in the engine while the intake where sucking.
The service manual suggest that the valve stays in the hoses that go to the intake while testing to suck im im not mistaken.

I dont know, how do i find out?

One of the first things I would do is perform a compression check in each cylinder. That will determine the condition of the compression rings on the pistons. If the compression is low you can pinpoint the rings being at fault by squirting a little engine oil in the sparkplug hole and re-check the cylinder. If the compression reading increases the rings are shot. If it remains the same it is most likely burned valves and or valve seats. This is one "old school" way to determine the internal condition of the engine. Taking into consideration the number of miles on the engine it is possible you have some wear. There are other reasons an engine will consume oil but this is an easy test to do.
