Odd groaning/whirring noise @ startup

I haven't posted on here in years because my P11 has been incredibly reliable, but unfortunately I've run into (hopefully) a minor problem:
I'm not sure whether this is temperature related or not, but after it started to get below freezing here at night I noticed a strange groaning/whining type sound when starting the car. It doesn't sound like starter rattle, and seems to be coming from around the dizzy cap or in that vicinity? Any suggestions? No SES light either...The noise goes away as soon as the car starts.

I would be willing to bet it is the starter. It may sound like it is coming from the distributor as the starter is physically located almost directly below it. I had excellent service from the original starter for 86 thousand miles. I just replaced it a few weeks ago. It was not the easiest starter motor I have ever replaced.Hey guys,
