I've never seen an analysis, but theres more to a filter than just the media. Even if it is a synthetic media, how is the seam held together, what kind of materials are the valves made out inside. How many pleats, how much surface area.

"Made by Champion" doesnt really matter. Sort of, but 1 manufacturer makes all different grades of products, plus look at the price and think of the "Industrie's" mind. So Champion makes an $11 K&N oil filter, and a $2 Valuecraft filter. Do think the manufacture is going to spend the same amount of time and money they would invest into an $11 part that they would in a $2 part?

Fram Tough Guard (Silver/Grey one) is definitely acceptable as it's made by a different OEM than any other Fram, according to the main dissecting oil filter guide out there. That is the ONLY Fram you should EVER use... Also, Mobile 1 Extended Performance has been part of Autozone combo's lately.. they claim they will last up to 15k miles! Well, after 2k miles my oil looks BRAND new so there may be some truth to it... I will still change it at 6k, however...

Here is the updated study with plenty of data and cut-away pictures.
http://minimopar.net/oilfilters/index.html

P11 Oil Filters cut open, every single one, except Nissan's http://www.subaruforester.org/vbulletin/f113/subaru-oil-filter-comparison-99130/

Another recent comparison http://www.gmtruckcentral.com/articles/oilfilterstudy.html

My current boiling it down:
Is either Nissan from the parts counter guy, or Bosch Performance brand, which is easy to get at Autozone, Oreilly and others @7 bucks. Its made by Champion which is the OEM for K&N and Puroletor PureOne, as you can see documented and in the pictures.
