Hello G20! I would like to inform you all that my beloved (stock) 2000 5-speed G20t has exploded. With this sad news I bring questions. I am looking at a replacement motor, but I am a little bit confused as to the differences in two specific engines I was looking at:

SILVER TOP ENGINE

GUNMETAL TOP

The silver top looks identical to mine. Does anyone know if there are any differences besides color and price? The gunmetal engine has a silly black box on it, that's as far as my expert eye can go on all things Nissan/Infinity. Thank you ahead of time for your help!

p.s. I am still looking for a '99 engine harness, If anyone has one, let me know...I'd rather start with a VE or DET.

what was the cause of the explosion? And WTF is ontop of that other engine in your link? Never saw that part before.
Where are you located? Why a JDM engine? If you are just putting a engine in and not going turbo just put another 2000-2002 G20 engine in and not have to swap so much crap. I have a complete 2000 G20 engine with 68k miles I would let go for $700

I think a rod bearing went or wrist pin. LOUD clack clack noises before death, and my oil now has metal flake in it. Had good oil in it, just think motor said eff it.

Ill tell you what broski, this car has been a challenge. I would have loved a VE-T but I have a 2000, and finding a 99 5-speed to donate parts for a VE swap is hard. I know of 3 ways to run a VE in a 2000+ 32 bit set-up. None are easy. Since I cannot find the parts to convert over to 16bit, I will just do a JDM RR and boost or even a USDM RR and boost. What crap do I have to swap out on the silver top? Intake Manifold..DIST...not bad IMO. BTW I'm in Baton Rouge, LA. Your offer is tempting, is that a shipped price?
Hi. The easiest this to do is replace with a lowport SR20 out of a P10, B14 or P11. If you're using a JDM motor, you're going to have to swap over intake manifold, exhaust manifold and ALL sensors from your factory motor, even if the new motor is a roller rocker. The problem with the '00+ engine bays are all the sensors not used in any other chassis besides the B15. Hope this helps.

Well now I'm confused. Never had someone tell me to do a lowport from a p10. Hmmm, I can deal with swapping stuff over, not a biggie. Got a lead on a 99 harness, waiting on a call back. Maybe VE will be possible. We shall see. Thanks for responses so far...
I'm assuming you're referring to my HowTo?
You are correct, and thank you for the write up. Amazing.
Both of those engines look like direct swaps. IM not sure what vehicles they came from but Thu seem to be identical to usdm roller rocker engines with no precat and a ve style camsensor.

They may not have when. however any lawyer sr20de you can swap you manifolds and sensors over on.
PS. Stay away from JDM Engine Corp.

So after reading your masterpiece. I have a question: You said "-'99 P11 Engine harness (Manual transmission preferred)" Could I use one from an AUTO?

Thats what I was thinking! Thanks for the input.

You can, you'll just need to rewire a few more connectors for the trans sub-harness.

Guess I'll go out on a limb and ask if you have any record of this? The auto harness is everywhere!
To be honest, I think there are 2 connectors. One for the reverse lights and another one. Nothing major.
As far as the motor is concerned, the auto harness should be identical. It's the same motor, same sensors, different transmission.
