So I have read and read and found a little bit of info but not really specifically what I'm looking for. This thread helped.
My situation: I live on a hill. Road is pretty steep 4 miles long. This is my first summer with my car. As of now my needle moves from about half(normal) up to about 3/4 on the temp guage about half way up the hill. My radiator is new, I have a Nismo thermostat and I usually use Distilled water and water wetter. I'm turbo so it runs hotter than stock.
Goal: To reduce engine temps.
Questions:
Will ebay slim fans make a noticeable difference alone?
I have searched ebay and found several different Alluminum rads for fws sr. What is something better that stock but less expensive than a Koyo(Mishimoto, JVTR, Godspeed etc.)?
I change my coolant very often. What is the best way to absolutely flush the system(reverse flush etc.)?
What coolant/water/additive do you reccomend for my setup and situation? It does snow in the winter and gets over 100* during the summer. I am willing to change fluid to compensate for both seasons.
Any other suggestions?
I would like to have this thread be a resource for other forum members that are in similar situations so please contribute!
you can use a z radiator, my friend had one in his p10, bulky as hell readiator and its all aluminum, the top part is just painted black.im not sure from what year though il double check for you. i think your fine with water wetter and water, have you tried a different thermostat that opens sooner?
I have a nismo thermostat. I looked up the 300zx ag rads and they are huge compared to stock p11. i kinda doubt they will fit...unles you mean a stock one.
im not sure what z it was off, i edited my post..but i will check. he actualy just pulled his out but its all gross so you dont want it. why dont you just run 3 fans, run your 2 stock ones and add an extra one infront of the condensor.
same issue here......... so to compensate, i rarely turn on the ac or drive the fx when it gets tooo hot outside.... also looked at those ebay fans, but still not sure if they will do
hmmm...idk, i'll see what else gets brought up. I might try that though. I would have to splice wires right, wouldn't that change the amount of power going to them?
So I found an S13 Koyo rad for sale, checked out the dimensions and they are very similar to the p11.Same Height. It is about and inch and a half shorter(as in width) and about an inch and a half thicker. what do you guys think? The only problem I see is that I may not be able to fit even slim fans. I can't put them in front becasue my ic is in the way and with the rad being thicker, I may not be able to fit them in the stock location either. You guys think it will work if the fans did fit though? Am i only looking for one with the same dimensions like this one?
PM 'Loek' We installed a 'flex-a-lite'? dual fan slim fan setup in his P11-144. It was one killer unit! not cheap, but worth it! We first installed a pair of slim fans (modded the stock fan holder) first, but that didn't suffice for him, so he picked up the flex-a-lite setup. Comes complete with holder. Almost plug & play! He's got pics of the install IIRC as well.
I'm in the same boat (sort of) I need a new rad. I've got (I'm 99% +ve) a hairline crack under the upper hose pipe. DAMN! If I can score a full aluminum rad as a replacement, that would be sweet! Do you remember the dimensions of that Koyo rad??? A little fabrication of brackets if it's shorter/narrower is easy to do. However, like you said, reversed location of the inlet/outlet ports are not!
So just got back from kragen, bought a 300zx Rad cap which hold more pressure than the stock one. its .9(stock) vs. 1.1(300zx) so about 15lbs. My car didn't get quite as hot as it usually does, i usually baby it up the hill and it will still get hot but today i drove kinda hard and it only got a little warmer than what it is usually at when normal. I wonder if this is a good cheap temp fix?
okay i'll look them up.
240sx SR20DET Koyo Core : 14 3/16" x 25 3/8" x 2 1/16"
Stock Core : 14 3/16 x 27-3/16 x 5/8
so it's a pretty damn close fit. If only they end tanks were swapped!
Yes, I have a Flexalite slimfan unit (pullers) and it cools really fast. Faster than oem. A Koyo is a good plan, just get one for a Sentra, that will fit quite well.
Another option for the m/t cars is to get a rad for an a/t, this is a little thicker. If you want to keep your a/c, it's still possible to install an additional set of pusher fans in front of the a/c ad and have those work either simultaneously or separatly.
I was trying to stay away from buying a new Koyo from a sentra because they are really expensive. I found a used one local for about half the price but for an s13. That was the only reason I said koyo but I'm looking for a cheaper version, ebay version:square:. Also as I said before, I can't put push fans in front of my condensor because my intercooler takes up too much room.
