I have been discussing this in chat a good bit lately, but did not have a thread, so here goes.

I received a 00-02 P11 LSD transmission from [email protected] a number of years ago. [email protected] remembered it being a non-LSD trans, and it would NOT shift into 3rd or 4th gear. I left it sitting on the floor for years, while I was trying to find parts for the Nimso clutch style LSD I have had in my garage. Well to make a long story not so long, I thought I found a source to get parts for the Nimso diff, so I took the P11 trans apart. As it turns out it was an LSD trans and the not shifting issue had to do with the 3rd/4th shifting rod being installed backwards.

While the trans was apart on my bench for sometime, I got some advice from Charles (Snickers) that B15 gearing would be a GREAT setup for my P10-VE. I received a msg from someone (p10_det) on the east coast who had a B15 trans that needed the input shaft bearing replaced and would be willing to swap FD (Final Drive) and ring gear off the Diff with me. We got all the parts shipped to Snickers, and he did the swapping and shipped the parts back. (BIG THANKS to Snickers for all of his help, phone support and doing the swapping of gears on the output shaft for me.. also big thanks to p10_det for agreeing to swap FD's!)

I then installed the updated output shaft and all the other parts, and had to relearn how to get everything back together again. Once the trans was assembled, it was clutch and trans install time.

Some gotcha's on the P11/B15 trans install in a P10:
  • You must swap the TOB lever from the P10 trans into the P11/B15 trans (which is setup for hydro). There is a great thread about this on the sr20forum.
  • The reverse and neutral switches are bigger on the P11/B15 transmission then on the P10 trans and the connectors are different. So you'll need to get the plugs from a donor newer car, or order new.
  • The shifting rod and stabilizer rod seem to hit each other when you put a P11/B15 trans in a P10. I plan to get a new yoke made that will be offset and not have issues. In the mean time I'm going to do what some of the B13 guys did on their install (swap the P11/B15 yoke with the one from a P10/B13 transmission, but rotate it 180 degree and trim a little bit of it off). Just to hold me over until I can get a yoke made for this application that is correct, can you say DMSentra/Loren? :)

Here's a pic:

While doing the trans install, I'm also installing a new Centerforce clutch. Jon (Cavern) has beat the hell out of one of these clutches over the past few years on a road course, and it's holding up. So I'm sure it will do great for me on the street.

Here is a pic of my old clutch disk hub, see anything out of place?

I'll provide an updated status after I complete the yoke swap, and take it for a drive.

I realize it's been forever since I updated this thread.. but here goes..

So I installed the transmission, and LOVED the gearing with the VE!! The only issue is, 3rd gear either didn't want to be shifted into, or it would pop out. So I swapped my old trans back in and have been running it. Last night I figured it was time to finally get on it. So I pulled the B15 trans apart, and this is what I've got now.

Many will notice the second input shaft laying there (yeah I picked up a spare).. but I don't know what kind of shape it's in. I'm going to drop off the parts at a shop and have them tell me what I need to order to get it finally fixed.

More updates when I have them.

Well, I found the issue with my B15 transmission yesterday. The shift forks are worn very badly where they connect to the syncro slide rings. A buddy of mine pointed it out to me yesterday. So then I measured them, there is 2mm of material worn off. Time to order some new shift forks (for 3&4 and 5&reverse). More updates when I receive the parts and put it all back together.

Here are some pics of the worn shift forks.

I'm using the P10 mount (I'm assuming you're asking about the drivers side mount). It bolts up just fine. The only other things you really need to change are the the speedometer pinion and the throw out bearing arm (I think that's what it's called?). And you'll need to trim down a black that is on the bottom side of the the throw out bearing arm (Assuming you're sticking with cable and not switching to hydraulic). I stock with cable.

Well, I started to assemble the transmission tonight, but ran into a snag. I'm awaiting feedback on if I can continue or if I need to buy a part. I did clean-up the case. It's a bit cleaner than this, I continued cleaning it after I took this pic.

I hope to be able to finish the assembly tomorrow night, and have pics of it put together. And maybe install it this weekend or the next.

Ok, I verified (thanks Charles) that I need to replace the oil channel (little plastic piece with a tube in it that goes under the bearing for the main/output shaft). I crushed it in the past a bit, but last night broke off the little tube when installing the output shaft last night. So I now have one on order.

Part replaced.. the oil feed tube for the main (output) shaft that I broke while trying to reassemble the transmission.

Now I just need to put it all back together, and NOT break that tube this time.

Progress!! Input and output shafts are installed, as are the shift rods/forks.

I'll get the case on this week and just need to schedule the time to toss it in.

Transmission is in. 3rd/4th gear feel GREAT! I also installed the LoCo lightened flywheel while I was in there to go along with the Centerforce clutch I'm using.

New and old flywheels:

LoCo flywheel installed from a few angles:

Again, transmission gearing feels GREAT! And my 3rd/4th shift fork repair is working great.

Note: one other point to mention.. I also fitted my LoCo B15/P11 yoke (to be used when installing an 00-02 P11 or B15 trans in a P10/B13/B14). It works perfectly! I have no interference issues at all.
Pictures are below:

Big thanks to Loren (DMSentra) for making the custom yoke, and for also making these sweet lightened flywheels.

The Yoke is pretty cool. how does it feel?
Dave, it feels SOLID! Great investment and the "correct way" to put a B15/P11 trans in a P10/B13/B14, well IMO.

take 2 is in full swing! i cant wait for my ride!
Just let me know MJ.. what I can tell you is I'm getting a lot of torque steer now..

dang we might have to go back to the dyno already
I'd love too, but don't want to have to pay each time. :)

So I'm guessing we'll just have to wait for me to get the cams/springs in there first.. and then maybe the COP?

He has the design, so he could make more. You'd have to hit him up and ask him. I'm sure glad I have one in my car! I didn't want to take a grinder to my linkage.
