Ok check this out this weekend my friend this officer was at a parking lot the other day training another new cop on how to use the radar guns for speeding tickets so i stop by to say whats up and chill for a min..

He then begins to show both of us how this machine works.

First crazy thing he told us and showed us was that the gun well this new gun that came out only uses two c size batteries and they can shoot at traffic for like 20 hours before having to change batteries.

So he was like look through the scope and in the scope was like a infrared beam he said point it at that car coming up ahead and pull trigger when you wanna clock it he said what happens is theres a standby switch in the cars so if they want they can turn off the standby and peoples radar detectors wont go off but it only takes two seconds to shoot a car so in those two seconds i shot that car is when peoples detectors go off

after like 10 minutes of me clocking people one after one i realized radar detectors are for people who are trying tlearn about road hazards LOL

anyway theres more i learned about them and there cars but that about all for posting now ohh yeah and one more thing a friend of mine got this hooked up 323ci so he was passing by so we put his scrambler thing he had on his car to the test and to my surprise it really worked but the cop busted out this other radar gun from in the car and clocked him with no prob it was a older style one

one note that he toild me was on the hihway he might put on his standby button so traffic around know theres a cop in the area via radar detector but he said be carefull when you got a cop with his standby off and your eep doesnt go off he might have it off on the highway to get people cuz it only takes two secs to shoot the gun at you

be safe people

long, but some valuable info.

although i have a radar detector, i know it doesn't work always. since i think i know a lot about them i'll share my knowledge. first you have 3 diff types of radar bands x, k, and ka, w/ the oldest to newest respectively. then you have laser (lidar) and i think their is a new type of laser, maybe the one your friend was showing you.

w/ radar the cop can have it on always like on their dash while they drive, and those are fairly easy to detect with a good detector. or they can have it on instant on w/ the ka band. basically it's on but doesn't give readings until the cop hits the trigger. this is similar to laser. instant on is essentially impossible to detect like laser.

laser is the newest technology and more and more cops use it. the prob w/ laser and instant on is the cop cannot be mobile. he only has to be stationary.

the only way you can detect against laser or instant on is if you detect someone else getting gunned.

as far as radar detectors go, valentine one is by far the best. it's also one of the most expensive at 4 bills. i don't own one, but would like to get one once i get some cash around. most scramblers don't work and i wouldn't recommend one at all.

sorry about the length, but thought i would share my knowledge. be careful when driving, especially over hills and around overpasses.

There are also a couple more bands used in other countries, which is why things like the valentine one are less effective in the UK. Ku is one of the bands used over here.

Was the scrambler a laser jammer? in which case the older gun picked him up because it was radar and the newer one was laser.

There's a fair bit of info on the http://www.beltronics.co.uk site

I travel a lot and radar detectors have some value as many small town cops do not have the latest equipment BUT the best bang for the buck is stil CB radio's--Truckers are banned from having radar detectors in many states but CB radios are very legal. put in on channel 19 and listen--you'll know where cops are including the "bear in the air" (my last ticket!--did not have CB on)

Maybe we need to get back to cb's and get our own "crusin channel"

True....CB's do kick ass...I need to get one...

As for the Valentine One....NOW that kicks ass, Ive used Escorts, Corbas, Bells, etc.....and the Valentine by far exceeds them you just need to pay attention to what it does...I highly recomend everyone purchase one, its well worth the $400. Its saved me a number of times.
